Herschel Walker forced to withdraw from Strikeforce: St. LouisPosted on November 24, 2010, 03:29 PM by Daniel Cassidy
Just over a week until the event, Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker has been forced to pull out of the upcoming Strikeforce: St. Louis card. The former NFL star suffered an accidental laceration in training with Daniel Cornier, which requires mutliple stitches.
According to the official Strikeforce Press release:
“I feel terrible about this,’’ said Walker, who was cut from a knee strike while training with AKA teammate and two-time United States Olympic wrestling team member Daniel Cormier. “I know things like this happen in all sports, but I had trained very hard and was excited to be returning to the cage again. I hope to fight again as soon as the cut heals.’’
An announcement on a replacement is expected in the next few days. The card is headlined by a Light Heavyweight bout between Dan Henderson and Renato "Babalu" Sobral, while Paul Daley faces Scott Smith, and Big Foot Silva fights Valentijn Overeem. A Middleweight bout between Robbie Lawler and Matt Lindland completes the card.
