Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez, who will defend his title against Tatsuya Kawijiri this Saturday in San Diego, talks about growing up in Santa Ana, California, as well as how contact sports led him to MMA.  Melendez plans to make a statement against Kawajiri and he says he will prove he is the best Lightweight in the world by the end of his career.

Melendez vs. Kawajiri will co-headline the stacked Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley fight card, set to take place this Saturday from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California.  The main event will feature Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz going head to head with Paul "Semtex" Daley.

Gil is the real deal man, I truly believe he or Eddie Alvarez are the top LW in the world. Frankie is good, but his in and out style would not work against either one of these two. He beat BJ because of cardio issues, but never hurt him. Eddie has incredible footwork and tons of power. Gil on the other hand might be the best overall LW in the world right now...great hands, good footwork, great BJJ, good wrestling, and great cardio -

Gil has got to be real happy, that if he defends his belt a few more times, he finally will get his chance to fight for and win the UFC belt...Go Gil, Go Cesar Gracie JJ !!

Edgars resume is better than Alvarez or Melendez. I would pick Bj over both of them but not over Edgar. Look at the other names Edgar has fought too.
