Following the UFC on Versus 6 card, UFC President Dana White said that he wanted to bring Gilbert Melendez, the Strikeforce Lightweight Champion into the UFC as soon as possible. However, it looks like that will be delayed as Strikeforce recently announced that Melendez would defend his crown against Jorge Masividal on December 17.

While the 19-2 Melendez is not looking past Masvidal, he has some long term plans in mind, including claiming his spot in the pound for pound rankings and maybe moving up to the 170 pound ranks.

I think Masvidal could give him problems. Gil will establish himself as a top 5 LW in the UFC one day though. Not sure if he would fare well at 170 though.
