The Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu product also shares his thoughts on his teammate's upcoming bouts, predicting a successful title defense for Nick Diaz, who will face Paul Daley in San Diego, and a major upset victory for Jake Shields when he meets Georges St. Pierre at UFC 129. Melendez promises to be the number one Lightweight in the world and plans to prove it by capturing the UFC title in the near future.
Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley is set to take place this Saturday from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California. The stacked card will be headline by a Welterweight title clash between division Champion Nick Diaz and challenger Paul "Semtex" Daley, while Gilbert Melendez defends his Lightweight strap against Tatsuya Kawajiri in the co-main event.

melendez is 1 of the best by far light wieghts in the world ! he should be in ufc with diaz ! thats kinda shity deal . they are owned by ufc but cant fight there ! as of yet but they will ! i really do think white wants diaz and melendez to stay at strike force ! too help grow the rising brand !

He's definately up in the rankings but yes would really like to see him fight someone like Jim Miller. Honestly, that would be a close match up.
How about you start ****ing fighting every once in a while, Gil, then maybe we'll be talking about you. Even if the fight with Eddie happened, which it DEFINITELY won't now that Zuffa owns Strikeforce, Gil still needs to do way more than that to garner the respect he wants. He's a great fighter but he has the most ****ed up, deluded view of himself in the world, he actually thinks he's in the debate for number one 155er in the world, and that is absolutely outrageous. He's had one lacklustre wrestle**** win in the last year against an exposed Aoki, and who else has he beaten top-ten? I appreciate him trying to expose himself and get his name in people's heads, but no one can actually take his arguements seriously.
gils high there is really no one he can fight in strikeforce that can get him the respect he believes he deserves. coker vetoed the fight with alvarez and the SF lw div is pretty limited just wait for the merger and hope for some good matchups.
