Gegard Mousasi: I won't go down to 185, unless it's for a fight with Anderson Silva

Former Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion Gegard "The Dreamcatcher" Mousasi discusse his clash with Ovince St. Preux at this weekend's Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal fight card in San Diego, California. Mousasi also spoke about the future of his MMA career, shaking off any rumors about moving down in weight classes, unless it's for the fight with someone of Anderson Silva's caliber.

"What I hear about other fighters, how much they cut weight, it could be done. But only if it's really an important fight I would consider (it), but otherwise I wouldn't do it. Let's say if they would give me Anderson Silva, I would do it, but I don't think that's going to happen, so it doesn't make any sense to go down to 185."

Why? He'd get munched. He couldn't even deal with King Mo's wrestling.

He should fight Fedor. So Fedor can punish him badly for betraying M1 Global !

If one day Mousasi dare coming to Russia, for a fight or training , we (fedor fans) might kick his ass in the street for betraying Fedor, Betraying M1 Global ,Betraying Russia !

And the worst thing ,is that he denied the fact that he has been fighting for M1 global team, like if he was ashamed of M1 ,after all what M1 and Fedor did to help him with his management and training

I was partially on the hype train when Mousasi was on a roll, then came KingHo(arrogant moron) made Mousasi look weak and he gassed. Stepped off that train pretty quick when I saw that. He isnt as well rounded as people thought.

That's what I was thinking too, because I thought he'd steamroll King Mo after I watched him win against Jaca Ray(spelling?) in that tournament a few years ago. The dude is talented no doubt; but he's had a few questionable performances against fighters he should have had an easy time with in Mo and Jardine. Two bad nights? Maybe we can get some questions answered tonight.

there is one thing you cant have a bad night on...thats wrestling...

You shoot and take a guy down or defend the takedown...

KingMo was taking Gegard down like a 5dollar hooker...

Fedor went down on weight and look what happened, he got KTFO, so sad. Fighters who are not used to cutting weight just shouldnt do it.

Hendo is better at LHW than MW and he walks around 203. Personally I rather fight bigger guys than cut weight and lose to smaller ones :)

i'm saying Hendo landed a GREAT punch, but the result was a flash KO, not a knocked-the-****-out-on-the-canvas is this man dead type of deal. It was 2 or 3 seconds at most before he re-booted and turned around. I'm not saying he would have won the fight had they waited or penalized Hendo for punches at the back of the head, either....

Everyone forgets Hendo is world class Greko Roman Wrestler..and turn the position on Fedor quicker than you could say "Mother Russia"

It's an interview with a fighter on this weekend's main card, from which an excerpt has been highlighted that acknowledges Mousasi's interest in challenging one of the best fighters on the planet. I'd say it's news to me, but to each their own :)

31-3-2 - thats 36 fights. Wins over Hector Lombard, Dennis Kang, Jacare, Babalu, Mark Hunt, and Sokoudjou. What kind of dues are you exactly talking about?

And it's not like he asked for A. Silva anyway, he was just making the point that he doesn't want to go down to 185.

Yeah first he has to win and eliminate enough good name in the lower organizations.... Then he needs to get invited by the UFC... Not Happening

Yeah I agree with Hunter. This goes for guys like Melendez and Lombard too, unfortunately a big winning streak doesn't prove anything unless you've beaten real contenders. That you had to add Mark Hunt to his list of impressive scalps speaks volumes. When Gegard beats guys like Rua, Hendo, Machida ect. then he can talk. To be honest, I think he'd have to beat some guys to even earn those fights.

I'm pretty sure his only fight under Zuffa was vs Jardine...a fight he clearly won regardless of the judges opinions.

Mousasi looks like he could cut down to 185 with not too many problems. AS walks at 225? Seriously? Of course the man to beat right now is Jon Jones and none other...

I don't think Mousasi could deal with Silva skillwise. He's a powerful fighter but he doesn't that cleverness that makes you that good. At least, not enough to beat Anderson.

It's hypothetical. He didn't say he wanted the fight. He said he would only go down to 185 for a very important fight, example AS. I think he could deal with Anderson on the ground and standing up, it's the clinch that i think he would have a really tough time figuring out, and speed. As for weight cutting, i'm sure GM knows his body well, there must be a good reason for him not wanting to go down. Some it could be competition, MW division isn't exactly stacked, while the LHW gives you more opportunities to fight known guys. At the moment i'd say the division with the biggest challenges are LW & LHW.

This fat lazy bitch has BJ Penn-syndrome - he thinks talent alone is enough to overcome hard work from opponents and sizeable physical disadvantages. The fact of the matter is that he isn't top-ten at 205 and has never impressed anyone fighting at this class. At 185, however, he would be a serious contender and worthy of some top-level competition at MW.

His not wanting to cut to MW has nothing to do with him not being able to or knowing his body well and it being undoable. The problem with that is it only works if you're Dan Henderson. Mousasi doesn't cut because it's easier to walk into a fight as you weigh and the dude has slacked his entire career. Gegard, you are no Hendo.

****sake, anyone here telling me Gegard doesn't have at least ten extra pounds of fat he could trim? He could probably make MW easily even if he just decreased the number of chins he has.
