Gegard Mousasi: I should have done better against Ovince St. Preux
Posted on December 18, 2011, 06:56 AM by Anton GurevichFormer Strikeforce Light Heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi declared himself unhappy with his performance against Ovince St. Preux at last night's Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal event in San Diego, California. According to Mousasi, his poor conditioning was the reason behind not being able to finish the fight, alongisde the fact of OSP being a southpaw. Mousasi improved his MMA record to 32-3-2, and is now now expecte to face the winner of Lorenz Larkin vs. King Mo bout for the currently-vacant Strikeforce Light Heavyweight title.

Story of his life - this guy will get slaughtered in the UFC unless he drops back to 185
this guy is not worse then a brandon vera, krzysztof soszynski etc
I hope not, I dont think Vera and Kryzstof should still be there.
Mousasi vs. Pokrajac?
russia wasnt impressed by mousasi. We actually hoped he would get knocked out. that s a pity he won. I hope the UFC sign him so the top LHW fighters will take care of him.
But But BUt he trained with FEDOR!
I must stay in Strikeforce if he wants to impress people. I won't impress people by getting beat up by the ufc fighters. I will impress people if he stays in Strikeforce, becomes the champ and remains the champ.
You could be in China, dont think it will affect Mousasi.
Yes you should have done better Mousasi, but then again Im not on that hype train. OSP was the most flatfooted unbalanced fighter Ive seen in ages. He is totally lost when he gets the fight to the ground, did zero GnP anytime he had the chance and his ground game sucked.
His style was totally inconsistent and his strikes were wild and inaccurate. Like I said Mousasi, you need to be more well rounded, though your wrestling looked quite a bit better.
Go train with Couture for a while. Iranian wrestlers wont do you justice.
His wrestling was much improved, to bad his game plan was off. Im sure Dreamcatcher is much better than what showed last night, had he spent more time standing he could have finished Ovince.
Wow. No one was impressed that Mousasi out wrestled OSP for most of the fight huh? I thought he looked great until the 3rd.
This fat lazy bitch has BJ Penn-syndrome - he thinks talent alone is enough to overcome hard work from opponents and sizeable physical disadvantages. The fact of the matter is that he isn't top-ten at 205 and has never impressed anyone fighting at this class. At 185, however, he would be a serious contender and worthy of some top-level competition at MW.
His not wanting to cut to MW has nothing to do with him not being able to or knowing his body well and it being undoable. The problem with that is it only works if you're Dan Henderson. Mousasi doesn't cut because it's easier to walk into a fight as you weigh and the dude has slacked his entire career. Gegard, you are no Hendo.
****sake, anyone here telling me Gegard doesn't have at least ten extra pounds of fat he could trim? He could probably make MW easily even if he just decreased the number of chins he has.
OK 'GabeRuediger'.
I couldn't understand why Strikeforce even existed until I saw this fight. OMG, this guy will be destroyed if sets foot in the UFC. He's a big fish in a small pond. What would Bones do to this guy? Or Rashad? He'll be cutting to 185 when he tries to step up... Very talented thought- maybe his downfall, as the comment above noted.
Great fighter but this guy always has an excuse.." I was sick" " they held me up at the airport by asking me am I a terrorist ?" . This guy needs to take this game seriously and fast or he will be like karo on the outside looking in.
I don't understand the negative comments. He dominated, and his wrestling looked great. If people think he's going to get destroyed in the UFC they don't understand MMA. As for excuses, he's no worse than Anderson, and it wasn't really an excuse but an explanation for his conditioning later on in the fight. I though the stigma of "not a UFC fighter you are no good" was gone, but i guess people assume MMA=UFC, which it isn't.
people think he would take a beating in the ufc LHW division.
but who doesnt get beat up by jones right now???
We are unhappy with your performance too, Gegard, so good call.
Haters gonna hate.
