Fedor Emelianenko: "It's time to wrap it up"

> Poor 35

What high time, I couldn't adjust to the fight. Maybe it's time to wrap it up for me. I would like to thank everyone for their support throughout my career. I dedicate all my performances to you. Maybe its time to wrap it up.

Maybe its the last time. maybe its high time. I spent a great beautiful sporting life. Maybe its gods will. Thank you for your love and warm reception, thank you God for everything.

Speaking immediately after his TKO stoppage loss to Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, Fedor Emilianenko gave the biggest possible hint at his retirement. "The Last Emperor" was stopped following a second round that saw Silva spend the majority of the round in the full mount, delivering devastating hammer fists that caused Fedor's eye to swell shut. The fight was stopped between rounds once the damage was examined.

Despite a strong start, Fedor quickly looked uneasy inside the cage, and visibly struggled with the sheer size of his opponent, who commentators speculated weighed around 285 pounds at fight time, compared to the Russian's 230. His opponent's reach was also a noticeable difference in the bout, that saw Fedor's record drop to 32-3(1).

@evilways i agree with you, although he has beatin some huge bi+ches, Fedor is one of the smaller heavyweights and i always thought that 205lbs shoulda been his home.

Its as if someone has dared you to try and write the most ill-founded and annoying comment of all time.

People like you confuse me. If you are enthusiastic about the sport enough to join a site like this, then why do you fail to recognise one of the most decorated and celebrated stars of its history?

I swear to god though, after the fight, the way Fedor was standing there looking downtrodden, and with the article on here with Fedor saying he still considers retirement, i genuinely did see some big hint at retirement coming. Its sad but fans will never want to see a true LEGEND (regardless of whether he is/was the best ever) like Fedor leave after only two losses

He doesn't have the desire at this point to drop weight. He has been hinting at retirement for a while now.

He's the LAST emperor. There can only be one LAST anything, and there will only ever be one Fedor Emelianenko.

I don't think Fedor is done, but I think the sport has evolved far enough that it's not possible to beat people 50 pounds heavier than you at the elite level. I think he could still be a great LHW if he wants to.

I completely agree with you. I still t6hink Fedor is Fedor but the guys surrounding him now are more patient and skilled in every area and he's a heavyweight but he's just at the bottom of that weight class and Bigfoot is up closer to the top of the weight class. I hope he doesn't retire as he's only like 35. Think about it Fedor but if you do no shame in it just dissapointment for me.

I would rather see Fedor retire with still only one legitimate loss on his record than go on and turn into some circus freakshow like other legends of the sport such as Sakuraba did. He'll always be remembered as the GOAT and the toughest SOB around, and if he wants to retire than I will support that and wish him all the best in life, he's more than earned a retirement with everything he's achieved.

I won't hate on him for retiring but I don't see him being less than he was just that his opponents are getting better. I know he has faced larger guys like Hong man but Big foot is lightyears ahead in skills compared. He is only 35! If anything he should go to LHW and get his job done there where his size will be upper middle. I don't want him to quit because I don't believe he is done. AS is 36 or 37 and the champ in his division and I feel Fedor has a chance to be champ at 205.

It's not so much to do with age, there's not a set age for anyone to retire at, age affects everyone differently. Look at Randy Couture, he only started out around the age of 30. Kharitonov is 30 but looks a lot older. Fedor has had a lot of fights in his career and that's what really dictates how long a fighter lasts, how much punishment they take. Fedor's never been KO'd but from being slammed on his head to the Rogers fight and now this, he's been in a lot of wars and it might be time for him to hang 'em up.

It might be but thats all I am willing to say right now. I still think he looked great even with this loss he was in a monster of a challenge with a guy that big and skilled. To me Fedor is just mismatched right now and could fare way better at 205.

I think the sport is evolving too much for Fedor. People are taking advantage of everything they can in the fight game nowadays. Fedor just wants to train and fight. He's never going to cut weight. He probably doesn't even take protein or supplements. The fight game is different now. People are getting faster, bigger and stronger. It reminds me of Igor when he was dominating Pride and then the game caught up with him. I just can't see Fedor dominating the HW division at 5'11" 230 lbs.

I am fully aware that I am going to be labelled a Fedor nut hugger but I find it hard to accept your comment. It probably has something to do with the fact that you spell know without the k or the n or that your spell nobody as two different words....I can't really figure it out. Maybe its the later post that puts a period where an exclamation point should be but I can't take you seriously with horrible grammar. Anyway, Fedor is G.O.A.T. at heavyweight. You should respect that even though you write at a level usually reserved for six year olds

I've said before that Fedor was a small HW fighter, however Silva wasn't the only bigger fighter he's ever fought. Did weight have something to do with it, yes, but we need to stop with the excuses already. It wasn't Fedor's night, therefore he LOST the fight to a pretty good fighter.

By the way, Cain was a lot smaller than Brock and he still beat the Sh....out of Brock.

There are excuses and there are reasons. I think a 34?+ weight advantage can be a reason. I'm not saying that a person can't overcome that but it can help a fighter to be that much heavier. That's why people cut weight..... haha wow.

Fedor did look uneasy, bigfoot was faster in more percise than i expected, a big win.

It did look like fedor was to carefull or something, looked like the lose to werdum bounced back in his head.

Love him or hate him Fedor will always be a big mma legend !

Wanted to see fedor vs overeem, although the same outcome of tonight proberbly would happen, i do think the sport evolved in fedor's years of low competition.

The finals will more likely be Werdum or Overeem V Barnett. I also think Big Foot would beat Rogers. Rogers is good but he doesn't do well against technical strikers and Silva is that plus bigger than Rogers.

I am only guessing but that may have been part of the game plan. In the Werdum fight Silva looked really dominant in the first and then faded. It is possible that Fedor was waiting for the later rounds to really start working on him. If it was a game plan it was an epic failure.

bottom line is fedor was the greatest in any organization IN the pride era. but the sport has evolved since then and honestly he doesnt have a relevant spot in the HW division anymore. He should of moved to LHW years ago, when he was still in his prime. Even now he could, but i believe hes lost his drive. Hes had a lengthy career, everyone gets old, and new people will allways be taking over the sport. Fedor was and is ONE of the greats of the sport, but can never say he is the greatest. But GREAT RESPECT for Fedor for what hes done for the sport.

All greats go out losing, if they didn't they wouldn't be true greats (Ali, Tyson etc). The problem for Fedor is that he hasn't been evolving with the sport and people are catching up to him because of that. He is still a top 10 HW and will remain the most important person in MMA history for a long time.

He is an immensely talented fighter who is, now, too small for his division. There are some huge guys there now and maybe, now, it's just too much for him.

I think he could easily fight @ 205, however, by his words, it sounds like his heart is no longer in it. He should step away for a while and reconsider; he is certainly still young enough to fight. I think one thing for sure, should he decide to stay, is that he needs to part company with M1; they have done his career no service; I believe they have held him back.

Strange - while I was watching the fight and Fedor was down on the canvass, I began to think of the odd similarities between FE and Chuck Liddell. Here were two guys that were top of the heap, living legends, considered virtually un-beatable and then....bang...it just all fell apart.

If it's over for Fedor, then best of luck to him - Elvis has left the building. He was amazing.

Too much has changed since his Pride days. The level of talent in the HW division is now on par with the size and strength of the competitors. More so than it was a few years ago anyway. The sport has evolved. Training has changed. There are a lot of really dangerous HW's nowadays that can really fight. Fedor is an exceptional fighter, no doubt about it. But he hasn't evolved with the sport and when you get a guy like Bigfoot who has skills and size, it's a far cry from Tim Sylvia. His retirement will be the end of on era. I say good luck to the man. If his heart is not in it, then there is no point for him to fight anymore.

Even though i've never been a huge Fedor-fan, but you just have to respect the guy for being a tough bastard.

Is he the no1 in the world, but he WAS the the no1 hw in the world.

Thanks to M1 to messing up his legace BUT you can't just put all the blame on them. Ultimately Fedor is in charge for his career and chooses who gets represent him AND that they do it with HIS best interest at heart. And even with Brett Rogers fighti think it showed that it was just a matter of time before he lost.

ANd M1 hasn't been putting him upp against top quality opponents the last few yrs.

Furthermore the game has changed, trainining methods, nutrition etc, AND Fedor unwillingness to change his strategy and training methods has been his downfall. Not training with black bjj guys, not training with different guys to prepare for differnent fighters is huge oversight or maybe just an hint of an shows an arrogance there.

That it has worked before, and it will continue to work....

If he retires then i respect his decision ant thank him for all the pleasure his given us OR he could give it go for real and realize that to keep up then you have to adapt with the times and maybe go to different camps.

He had problems with the distance and timing, and was throwing long looping punches. Maybe Gloden Glory for striking and going to the states to work out with A-class wrestlers and some bjj-guys...
