Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champ Dan Henderson and former PRIDE Heavyweight Champion Fedor Emelianenko are now set to go head to head in July.

SBNation.com first reported the finalization of the bout, which is expected to soon be announced by the promotion.

In his latest effort, Emelianenko (31-3) was defeated via TKO (doctor stoppage) by Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva.  The loss, which eliminated him from the promotion's Heavyweight Grand Prix, marked his second in a row after having suffered his first legitimate defeat against Fabricio Werdum several months prior.  Though he openly discussed the idea of retiring following the consecutive losses, Emelianenko reconsidered and resumed training shortly thereafter.

Henderson (27-8), meanwhile, left the UFC to sign with Strikeforce in 2009.  After a disappointing decision loss to Jake Shields in his promotional debut, he rebounded strong with an impressive first-round knockout victory over fellow veteran Renato "Babalu" Sobral.  The win earned him a shot at then-champ Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante this past March, whom Hendo dispatched of via third-round TKO to capture the Light Heavyweight title.

The match-up is set to take place July 30th and will likely be held at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.  Though it is expected to to be promoted as a Heavyweight fight, reports indicate that both competitors have agreed to a catchweight of 220-pounds.

    This is great news!!

Two legends of the sport will meet in the cage!

But i have mixed feelings toward who to cheer! Henderson is an awesome fighter but i just cant go against Fedor!

too bad one will loose, at least Hendo will keep his belt no matter the result. This fight will be fireworks!!

@Rigo Ya I agree...hard to pick a winner, I guess I'm going with Hendo cause hes one of my favorite fighters of all time but Fedor obviously has a really good chance at winning, its Fedor after all

It's getting weaked because the people who run the UFC own strikeforce as well and are clearly making a lot of the decisions. As for catchweight superfights, this is the same strikeforce that made a mess of booking Miller-Diaz. And of course, this match is officially a heavyweight bout, not a catchweight.

I hope Fedor can get back on track for one more strong push at the title. Hendo is a huge challenge but if Fedor can overcome him, he'll be setting himself up nicely for the number one contender spot. If this is a catchweight bout at 220, what will be Fedor's next match? Heavyweight or Light Heavy?

Fedor's probably dipping his feet in with weight cutting and trying a cut to 220 as he's never had to do it for a fight before. It might work against him if he straight away cut to 205. Best he progressively has his body get used to the weight cut process.

I think Wanderlei Silva and Vitor Belfort did the same thing before considering cutting to 185, they each had catchweight fights at 195 before the move down.

It worked against Wand, he looked a bit sluggish, while Vitor looked great. It's only 10 pounds for Fedor, but it might make a big difference in his Cardio.

Fedor could just lose the weight, and then he wouldn't have to cut it. He could lose 10 pounds of fat and still look pudgy.

WOW! Huge news. This fight is just remarkable. I'm speechless. I mean Wow!! No offense to Hendo but if Fedor loses he should retire, if he wins i just don't know, it doesn't say much. It's a great fight but it really doesn't solve Fedor problem fighting at HW. This fight is also interesting at the fact that Dan can keep it on the ground while Fedor looks for subs, and now because of the elbows it might make a differance in the fight unless Fedor can keep it standing. But both guys are super tought Antonio could not knock out fedor mounted for like 5 minutes and he outweighted him 50+ pounds, but at the same time the H-Bomb is a game changer. Fedor has only been cracked once in his fighting career. This fight is absolutely awesome and i cannot wait. Some people will agree that a Fedor fight is always going to be exciting and amazing and the outcome will be throw up in the air. Awesome.

so is it a contracted catchweight or just a gentlemans agreement..

'Though it is expected to to be promoted as a Heavyweight fight, reports indicate that both competitors have agreed to a catchweight of 220-pounds. '

catchweights are xxxlbs-xxxlbs, not '220' which almost says they wanted the fight to be HW so they can count it towards a title run, they just agreed to come in around 220 under the table?

I wish I could throw popcorn and tomatoes in response to this comment.

You are too delusional and blind to see that BOTH FIGHTERS WANT THIS FIGHT!

You said yourself, "both fighters want the fight", so who the hell are you to argue about it like it's a bad thing for either fighter???

Maybe if you learn proper punctuation you will be able to express things better and make some sense, but I have the feeling that punctuation is the least of your problems with those delusions.

Well... You say that Fedor is the biggest draw in all of MMA. Which is just simply not true. As much as hardcore fans acknowledge the caliber of fighter he is, he's never been a huge draw. Its sad, this I know, but true. He is just so quiet and focused, a real gentleman. So I guess not enough casual fans are attracted to a fighter without some type of drama surrounding them.

Does anyone know who actually is the biggest draw? Last I heard it was Brock, but I'm not sure if that's actually true. I would think Kimbo was up there as well. Anyone have the actual numbers?

This should be an amazing match... Fedor fighting someone around his own size will be much more like his earlier fights at Heavyweight. Back then there weren't many true HW's, so it really was a division for guys who were just outside 205 and didn't want to exhaust themselves cutting weight. No matter how this one goes, its automatically epic.
