Top Heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum, who will meet Alistair Overeem on June 18th, discusses his opponent, as well as his training and preparation for the bout.  Werdum assures that he is not looking past his upcoming match-up, but says that when he wins the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Tournament, he hopes to be granted a shot at the UFC Champion.

Currently enjoying a three-fight winning streak, the Brazilian will be in action for the first time since his 69-second submission victory over the previously unbeaten Fedor Emelianenko nearly one year ago.  If he should emerge victorious against Overeem in the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum main event, Werdum will advance to the next round of the promotion's Heavyweight Grand Prix, where he will face Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva for a spot in the finals.

im envisioning the look on Werdums face while he trying to get up off the canvas after he has just been KTFO, I can see it so clearly it will be a look of confusion

Werdum will offer the same resistance to Overeem that Tokyo had when Godzilla rolled through.

That's absolutely NOT going to happen. First off Overeem is going to KO him and if he by some miracle beats Overeem he might have a chance.

First of all i think The UFC champion should want to fight the winner cough Overeem cough of the Grand Prix Tournament not the other way around.

The Grand Prix is the real deal , not that the belt of the UFC isnt is just that the tournament has some great fighters! and the UFC is running out of contenders, im sure that by the time the Grand Prix ends, most of the top Heavyweights in the UFC will have fight each other leaving a very few of them with some straight wins

example Shane and JDS both awesome fighters but the loser of that fight cannot be consider a contender for at least a year if not more.

So by the time theres a Grand Prix Champion the UFC Champion should be left with out to much competition

i agree, top ufc heavyweights are pretty much being rolled out already there are few remaining fights left in the division i dont think dana is just sitting there waiting to happen that choices are gonna run out. we know dana and i know plans are laid out alrady. thats why ufc has become one of the biggest org in MMA to exist. pretty exciting fights for ufc-strikeforce

overeem or silva or barnett ,fedor vs shane, or jds or cain etc...whichever in this makes me wanna but a ppv. but for werdum i think he is becoming delusional already but we cant accept the fact that he wins against fedor in a surprising fashion but either way if he gets a rematch with dos santos i can see a ko again or tko just for me. cheers SF-ufc merger biggest thing to happen in MMA

Wat a fool this guy is .. already thinking that he is going to win this fight .

He has one chance .. get Overeem to the ground and thats ****ing it .

Then again he wont get overeem to the ground sinds he has no World Class wrestling .. he has BJJ trips true .. then again if he go's in the clinch with Overeem .. them UBER knee's wil come right away and i dont think he wil like that verry mutch ! And Overeem wont jump guard like Fedor did .. he wil let him stand up all night and K.O. this ****ing idiot Overeem all day !

That's hilarious Werdum, you submit Fedor and you think you are King Sh*t of the World all of a sudden. 'Reem is going to pound you through the floor of the cage.

Listen pal, Werdum is going to have to get Overeem on his back first... and I don't see that happening. Trust me, if Alistair threw 265 lbs of Brett Rogers like as if he were a dodgeball then Fabricio is going to get manhandled.

I'm not overlooking Werdum but Overeem is a straight up nightmare -- and Fabricio himself knows it. It's going to take alot more than just an excellent ground game to beat 'The Demolition Man', and Werdum has nothing else.

What a fool. He's not looking past his up coming match up but he says he's winning & then wants a shot at the UFC title?! How stupid is that.

I'm hoping Alistairs KO's this cat worse than JDS did.

I am glad im not the only one. Alistair has always had suspect cardio. I think if Werdum is able to keep the fight past the first round hell be able to keep it on the ground and and take the sub or tko him.

    Werdum sounds like a she-male.

I love Werdum. He is funny as hell and a confident SOB as well. But you got to admit you wouldn't want your wife picking up the phone to hear you talking to him.

I'm sorry but Overeem hasn't had that tough of competition in a few years. Gary Goodridge? James Thompson? Brett Rogers? Todd Duffee? Those are pretty much the only somewhat big names he's fought since 07. And let's face it Alistair crumbles under real contenders. He fell to Rua, Little Nog, Arona, and Kharitonov. Not to mention Werdum has a victory over him already.

The truth is Werdum has beaten some real top level fighters. Silva, Emelianenko, Gonzaga, Kyle. These are just a few. Do I think Werdum is justified to call out the heavyweight champion? No. Do I think Overeem is going to beat him? No.

We're going to learn a lot about Werdum and Overeem when they fight. To me, this is Alistair's first MMA test since 2007. And I'm eager to see what happens.

Ok First Of ALL... Not only was that overeem 65 pounds of pure ripped muscle ago.. he was also fighting over and over the top competition in the world.. having a loss to one of the most decorated strikers of all time in his prime at his weight doesnt make him a chump. You're talking about a guy who is not only unbeaten at heavyweight and is an absolute monster. But destroyed every single fighter hes fought when historically amazing fighters considered to be the best had trouble ie. Fedor have had trouble with like rogers. It definatly wasnt that one sided. Ontop of that he won the most recognized pure striking kickboxing world championships in the grand prix. Disrespect reem like that and youll be face down on the floor like werdum will be when he fights this beast that alistair has become
