Chad Griggs delivers an upset with a Round 2 TKO victory over Bobby Lashley

A Firefighter from Tuscon, Chad Griggs delivered proably one of the less anticipated MMA upsets of the recent time, forcing the referee to stop the contest between Round 2 and 3 for a TKO victory over Bobby Lashley. Just like I said in my predictions post, the difference between Chad Griggs and Wes Sims is that Griggs takes himself seriously. And as a fighter who takes himself seriously, he was well-prepared for his opponent, and was able to deliver an upset.

In fact, Chad Griggs was the only one who delivered the real damage to Lashley. Griggs hurt Lashley numerous times on his feet, before making the WWE Superstar to pay for the takedowns off his back.

The Downfall of Lashley's fighting spirit started when Griggs caught him with a well-timed upper cut, which opened a big cut right below the eye. Lashley looked troubled with the cut, adding that to the exhaustion after another sprawl by Chad Griggs. Bobby Lashley had an opportunity to finish the fight from the Full Mount during Round 2, but Griggs managed to weather the storm and break Lashley's spirit for good.

When the referee decided to stand up the fighters after lack of action, Griggs sprawled Lashley's takedown attempt, followed by a rain of heavy hammerfists. Lashley was saved by the bell, but looking at the cut and bruised fighter, the referee decided he's seen enough and called the fight off between Round 2 and 3.

Lashley's performance leaves MMA fans around with many questions about the conditioning of the former WWE Superstar, as well as the fruitless Ground-and-Pound gameplan. This loss could be the best things in Bobby Lashley's career, but it all depends on whether he wants to be a real Mixed Martial Artist.

Im by no means a strikeforce fanboy but yes this really does surprise me, Lashely has a very legit amateur wrestling background and that makes for success more often then not in mma

I think this outcome may of been different if SF allows elbows to the head of a grounded oppenent, they make it alot harder for a wrestler to finnish. Lashley is an example as well a Shields, its alot harder to make someone turn over giving up their back without elbows.

i dont think lashley has the frame to carry all that muscle around you can tell it slows him down hampers his movement and kills his cardio. he also might not have the heart for mma you could tell as soon as he got that cut he wanted out of there

Yeah, I agree. Admittedly, I was rooting for him (in this fight and in general), but he seemed broken after the 1st. It was evident that Griggs was hungry for the winand while I'm sure Bobby wanted the win.....he didn't fight like his career hung in the balance.

Agree 100%. I saw fear as soon as he realized he was bleeding. Also, all that muscle isn't even helping him, he looked like he had crappy g&p even with all that meat. All it does is worsen his cardio. He might continue to have success in round 1s but that's about it.

Hope this fight teaches Lashley to work on his submissions and his stand up game.I'm sure he'll come back stronger.

Why didt the ref stand Bobby Lashely, if he was working on the mount with some good ground, and pound...WTF..Yet Bobby needs to work on his stand up, and cardio...But that was no excuse for them to break it up..

Well something like that will happen to Brock soon... Cain will take Brock to deep rounds, and make him give up...TKO.. Cain New Champion...Brock size won't help him against The Terminator.

That's what I was thinking. Full mount and you stand it up? That was ridiculous. I think Lashley will learn from this and come back stronger. He just needed to conserve his energy and not waste shots.

I think the description of how this fight ended in this article does not fit the reality of the fight. Lashley couldn't even stand anymore after the bell rang, he could not walk over to his corner, whether he was too hurt or lost every will to fight he was out.
