Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva defeats Fedor Emelianenko via a Doctor Stoppage

Antonio Silva did what a very few people expected from him by defeating Fedor Emelianenko. Silva used his reach and an incredible size advantage to control "The Last Emperor", who struggled to cut down the giant. Fedor's punches landed directly on Bigfoot's chin, but the Brazilian answered with strikes of his own to control the pace during the fight.

Silva opened the second round with a perfect takedown, and quickly advanced into a mount position. Bigfoot landed powerful ground and pound strikes from the top, as Fedor tried to escape three times from the dangerous position. However, Bigfoot was alert, not allowing his opponent to slip away. Second round ended with Bigfoot's kneebar attempt, on which Fedor answered with the one of his own.

At this moment, Fedor's eye was grotesquely swollen. Fedor went exhausted to his corner, as Mauro Ranallo announced that the fight might be over. And after seconds of confusion, Ranallo's announcement proved to be true. Doctors decided to sotp the action.

Antonio Silva advances to the Semi-Finals, where he will meet the winner of the fight between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum. Fedor Emelianenko is 32-3 in his MMA career, and according to his post-fight interview, may retire from the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.

It was a tough fight. Silva weighing in at 285 at fight supposedly was a bit over-powering. Kudos to both fighters.

Yes, last night he proved that he is the toughest, most resilient fighter ever and we all know that he'd have had no qualms about going into that 3rd round and giving it his all.

I agree the size was the difference for sure. I personally don't want to see him retire at that age though as many others are doing fine at that age and some are champs of the UFC. I still think he is a great fighter as always but when your facing a guy that is 50lbs or more bigger you can't feel that your just too old for the sport. Anyway I always was a critic for years not so much of him but the fans that thought he was invincible but I will always know him to be inline with the greats of MMA.

B.S decision not taking away anything from Bigfoot but with 5 mins still on the clock a lot could had happen!

almost all the other fights ended in less than 5!

Fedor won the first round and Bigfoot won Big time the second but Fedor was still fighting trying a submission!

Fedor is a Light Heavyweight who become the Greatest Heavyweight in the history of MMA. Nothing but Respect to him , i feel honor growing up watching him make history. Thank you Fedor for being an inspiration inside and out of the ring/cage.

Face the fact that Fedor got destroyed. First it was a "fluke" submission loss and now it's a "B.S." decision by the doctor and the ref. Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva won via HULK SMASH.

And now you wanna label him a LHW, but really he was too undisciplined to make weight at 205.

I'll give Fedor this much credit, he was a good fighter while he was with Pride, but that's about it. I respect him as a man and I hope he has a nice life after his retirement.

I like how he lost via "Doctor stoppage"and not TKO like EVERYONE ELSE!!! Why does there ALWAYS have to be an excuse? Dana should of went off on the nutthugeers as well as his management, worst thing to ever happen to the guy.

it wasn't a TKO. did Fedor ever at one point quit or stop defending himself? yeah he was hurt but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have been able to fight. fighter safety is paramount and the ref made the right call by stopping the fight, but there was still a whole 5 minutes to go.

Is that supposed to be a joke? He went undefeated for ten years. Every man has his time. It seems fedors has come which is fair enough but to disrespect his legacy like u have is a Joke. Fedor is, was and always will be legendary in the sport of mma. Without him and a handful of others we probably wouldn't be having this pathetic arguement. Emelianenko is to mma as pele is to soccer, Jordan is to basketball

It's funny. The Fedor haters say that his fans are nutt huggers when we make legitimate arguments but their posts fall into two main categories; A, arguments like the one above that argued that Fedor is sh^t because the guys he beat in their prime are now past their prime and getting beat which is nonsense. OR B, Hateful posts about how great it is that Fedor suffers or other such garbage. I have come to the conclusion that most of the people that are not Fedor fans are actually just bad people. That isn't to say you have to like Fedor to be good or that there are not exceptions but in the main this seems to be the case.

Randy fights elite competition at over 45 years old. He came out of retirement to beat the so-called wonderman silvia..somehow its a big deal when fedor beats him? Tons of fighters could crush cans to buffer their record, but they don't because people would notice.

Cain outweighs Fedor by 10 pounds. Check some weigh in results. And Cain carries a lot less fat than Fedor. He is a much bigger guy than Fedor.

Cain is a ripped 244. Fedor is a somewhat flabby 244. First of all, thats 14 pounds which is almost an entire weight class at the lower weights. Second, if fedor was as ripped as Cain, he would probably weigh around 210. That kind of weight difference always has been a big deal, but in his prime, Fedor was so good that it didn't matter.

During the Overeem vs Fedor debates I mentioned that Fedor was declining from his prime. You could see it in the difficulties that he was starting to have in defeating his opponents. In his prime, he would never have had as much trouble with Brett Rogers as he did.

I have been a fan of Fedor's for many years and it saddened me today to see him take the beating that he did in defeat. He suggested in the interview that he may retire. Should he retire, I will remember him as one of the greatest sportsman that I have ever seen and a wonderful example of how sportsmen should conduct themselves, even if they are the best in their time.

As for The Reem War Wagon, I'm firmly on it and believe that it will roll over Fabricio Werdum. Fabricio may see something in Alistair's game he can exploit but I believe that this is Alistair's time now and that Alistair will do to Fabricio what JDS did to him.

Silva did a good job. Fedor may want to look at dropping a weight class. Then again, after the career he has had, you can respect the man for wanting to retire.

Silva beat Fedor. Big credit to Silva. Fedor has lost his edge. His time has to come to the end. Big Nog, Cro Cop, Randy, Chuck and now Fedor past thier prime. Those fighters are true legends.

All I can say that I would like to thank Fedor for all those years watching him fight. He is the true legend!

The UFC's fighters are no different from those elsewhere except that their HW division is in shambles. They have 4 times the fighters that SF has and they still can't find legit fights for their HW's now that Cain is injured.

well i'm glad m1-s stocks will plummet and they wont be able to make strikeforce co-promote with them anymore..

and i'm glad i wont have to look at his bored expressionless face or listen to him thanking god all the time, we get it, you like god.

wonder how long it'll take for him to drop out of top10 lists, probably about 4 years after he retires

hard to watch but it just looked like silva was just to big for him to handle and his chin was just too good for fedor to get the ko at 5-11 229 he is just to small to deal with the big guys anymore big props to silva for fighting a smart fight

I dont understand you guys when you compare Fedor with Cain.Look at Fedor how many professional tough fights had! Those fights have a bad prints on Fedors body, injuries remember it.After Brock fight Cain got injured to,and badly he is out for long time. The point is that when you have a big weight disadvantage you can still win but you can get over powered and injured. The diference between Fedor and Cain is the number of fights.I am curious how Cain will do after 10 more fights!!I hope this great person is gonna retire and take care of his family.Thats enough Fedor..We will love you forever

Fedor is a true gentleman, brave and fierce. He fought and he fought and he fought.. For Years! And still he gets disrespected by people who just need to rip him, for what? What has he ever done to earn such negativity? Find out more about the man. Not so you can fit him into some stupid ranking system, but so you can lean about things like true class and an iron will to compete and succeed. To those who hate: He would never say the things you say, not to anyone. Its called heart, and it goes a whole hell of a lot further than the mat.

I'm sick to my stomach/ I've never felt that way about a fighter.l It sickens me, i believe little part of me died tonight. Fedor should have been given another chance. Just because he's eye was closed? I've seen a ton of fighters with their eyes closed and they continued to fight.l My heart is broken,.

Fedor was obviously fighting to please his "management" His heart hasn't been in fighting since before all the UFC vs M-1 Global crap started. After all that nonsense fighting become a chore for him. Not to mention Fedor was way over-rated. Yes he was a great fighter but people began to think he was unbeatable, no one is unbeatable.
