Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem, who will face Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva in the semifinal round of the Heavyweight Grand Prix, discusses the upcoming bout, as well as his future fighting plans once the tournament is complete. Overeem reveals an interest in possibly pursuing a professional boxing career and says that with the proper training he believes he could "break some bones" in the squared circle.

Overeem on life after the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix:

"The UFC or maybe boxing... I think (boxing) matches my personality. I'm always looking for a challenge.  That came about fighting for K-1 and becoming K-1 Champion - something nobody ever did before. It would be cool to go to boxing and beat the main guy there. I know if you gave me good preparation and good sparring partners, which I can arrange, and with my background already in kickboxing, the K-1 background, I'm sure I can break some bones."

I love Overeem and think he is the 2nd best striker in MMA, but I don't think he could handle top boxers. If he wanted to be #1 boxer he would have to beat Wladimir Klitschko and if David Haye couldn't do it, who has a similar punching style to Reem, he won't be able to. I'm not sure if Reem would have the chin for boxing ethier, it depends on how big a difference their is between MAM and boxing gloves (he still got rocked with K-1 gloves though).

sorry but i would give the reem a small chance against wladimir but he would get killed against vitali. the k bros dont get a lot of respect from the media but if you look at their records it kinda speaks for itself. also its not like overeem is some great technical striker he is just huge and bullies guys into the corner where he can drop killer knees on them. one of the reasons werdum was so successful was he stopped allistart from moving forward and in some cases put him on his heels . bottom line is if werdum can land solid shots on the reem so can vitali and he has somewhere in the 90-95% of his fights end in ko currently the best in HW boxing history

I wonder if this is another "Nick Diaz" negotiation tactic to get into the UFC with the threat of pursuing a boxing career.

i admit that MMA fighters are paid very low comparing to boxing but the situation is different in boxing the money are not well distributed while on MMA it is but the main event stars are pain very low compare to boxing superstars. i doubt he will look good on boxing, cause verdum outbox him from their last match but i dont doubt overeem's chin. Open it to klichsko and he will knock you out senseless
