What are the best nations in MMA after Brazil and the United States?
Posted on January 3, 2011, 02:52 AM by David.KWith the rapid growth of MMA, plenty of nations, besides the MMA pioneers of Brazil and the United States, are developing effective techniques, knowledgeable trainers, and talented fighters.
With all that in mind, the question arises, " What are the best nations in MMA after Brazil and the United States?"

Comments
japan, russia, UK
No love for canada?
no.... lol jk the best P4P is from Canada, how could you exclude Canada O Canada???
Croatia, 3 fighters in the UFC until recently on only 4 and a half million people. ^^
holland
overeem, mousasi, rutten, coenen, hardonk ...
Melvin Manhoef
Certainly not number 3 but definitely in the top 10, perhaps even top 5 is Canada.
Fighters currently in the UFC now: GSP, Sam Stout, TJ Grant, Tim Hague, Mark Bocek, Krzysztof Soszynski, Sean Pierson, Rory MacDonald, Claude Patrick, Nick Ring, Jason MacDonald, Jesse Bongfeldt and John Makdessi.
Outside of the UFC there are many other fighters and also many small local promotions, especially in Quebec and Alberta.
Probably are 5th or 6th after brazil, usa, russai, japan, and right around uk territory. Ireland is probably 75th unless you include all the guys who say they are Irish.lol.
apparently there's a lot of talent coming out of eastern europe, more specifically Russia, in the M1 Selection Shows. Considering M1's relationship with Strikeforce we'll probably see a few of these guys fighting in the strikeforce challengers series within the next couple years. Some of them are already on the rise, like Mamed Khalidov in Sengoku.
I would love to see Mamed in UFC.
ive only been following him since he knocked out santiago from the bottom... that was amazing!!!
Most likely where this sport (mma) is most popular at is where we are going to find the best nations in mma.
as long as it's not that fake irish douche, marcus davis!
Isn't Japan a MMA pioneer too?
And they got a lot of fighters, maybe not considered the best fighters in the world but a lot of fighters and a lot of fans
Atleast MMA got big in japan, think of Pancrase or Pride
Japan, USA, Brazil is top 3 (not in that order)
After that i think Canada and then Russia because most russian fighters tend to stay in Russia
After them UK and then The Netherlands with Poland and South Korea coming up
So
1, 2, 3 USA, Brazil, Japan
4 Canada
5 Russia
6 UK
7 The Netherlands
8, 9 Poland, South Korea
And 10 Armenia
I forgot Australia... Shame on me
there is no way that the the UK is better than the Netherlands
1. japan
2. netherlands
3. uk
4. canada
then the rest of EU and asia =D
i`snt marcus davies irish american? U.k not doing bad for 60 mill.
Obviously none of you follow irish mma theres alot of exiting fighters coming through. John 'The Wrecking Machine' Redmonds fighting for the Middleweight title in March thats one to look out for :)
yeah obviously we dont... you named one fighter
Holland all day for that fire!! Gotta love Golden Glory putting it down. Not to mention they house fighters from all over Europe.
Khazakstan. Really.
If we went off overall contribution to the sport Japan is right up there with the Brazil and the US. They have dozens of good fighters in the lighter divisions but not enough world champions for the size of the sport in Japan.
Canada is well up there, lots of great fighters and simply having one of the most dominant fighters in MMA history puts them right up there.
The UK's got a lot of great fighters in a short space of time and are being seen on most UFC cards nowadays, but still has a long way to go.
Russia greatest achievement lies with Fedor, enough said but generally I think they're under-achieving with such great potential, yet too entrenched in Sambo, they need to modernise more.
If Kickboxing were MMA Holland would be right up there with Brazil and the US but it's not MMA, nonetheless they have some great fighters and we'll see them increasingly giving some Dutch beatdowns over the next few years. To finely combine US wrestling expertise with Brazillian Ju Jitsu and Dutch kickboxing would have frightening results.
I'd like to see a few more Scandinavian bad boys coming through.
The Eastern Europeans are on their way.
The Aussies are coming.
And man for man Armenia could be the hardest country in the world!
