War on Mainland: Tim Sylvia KO's Paul Buentello, as Jens Pulver suffers 6th consecutive defeat
Posted on August 15, 2010, 04:39 AM by Anton GurevichFormer UFC Heavyweight Champion Tim "The Maine-iac" Sylvia has officially bounced back from defeats against Minotauro Nogeira, Fedor Emelianenko and Ray Mercer, by winning his 3rd consecutive fight, this time against the UFC outlet Paul Buentello. Sylvia went toe-to-toe with Buentello, before landing a deciding uppercut that forced Big John McCarthy to stop the fight just three seconds from the end of the Round 2. Sylvia improved his record to 27-6, and will face Pedro Rizzo in his first PWP Heavyweight Title defense.
Also, former UFC Middleweight title challenger Thales Leites, as well as the former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver suffered defeats in their fights. Decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt Thales Leites was submitted via a Rear Naked Choke in the fourth round by Matt Howrich, who improved his record to 24-15-1 and captured the PWP Middleweight title. As for Jens Pulver, the fan favorite lost his 6th consecutive fight, this time against Diego Garijo via a Guillotine Choke in the first round.
Pulver announced his retirement after losing to Javier Vazquez at WEC 47, but still decided to continue his career at PWP. It was Pulver's fourth consecutive First Round Submission defeat, and third (in his last four fights) via a Guillotine Choke.
The event took place at the Bren Events Center in Irvine, California.

Sorry to hear about Jens. LiL Evil has always been one of my favorite fighters.
It's too bad also that he lost out on the WEC commentators position. Hopefully things go a lil better for the guy in the future.
What happened to Jason Lambert? I used to love that guy in the UFC.
Jens is pulling a Ken Shamrock... WTF..
I agree. He was a great fighter, but it's time to hang it up. It's his choice though, and it's tough to give it up.
It's called poor long term financial planing, not being very smart or well spoken and really having very few other ways to make a living.
...
If Jens has any real friends, one of them should pull Jens aside and tell him the truth: Jens, you're a thirty-four year old caucasian If you want to continue fighting, holler at Randy Couture and make him give you his HGH connect.
With the exception of Chuck Liddell, HGH has done wonders for every fighter who has given it a try.
