Top 10 Fighters currently not on LowKick.com Community Top 10 P4P Rankings

The rankings system here on LowKick comes pretty close to perfect, in my eyes. Pulled from around 500 votes, the rankings are the culmination of every single users own personal rankings list. When each list is added, a fighters is awarded points for how highly rated they are. So if enough people consider Jose Aldo the P4P king, then he will earn his spot at the top, because you voted him there.Of course, everybody will have a different opinion, and a different P4P list.

But as I said, no system is perfect. While my P4P list might look totally different to yours, unless people agree with me, then few of my fighters will make it to the top 10. Take Brock Lesnar. While I might not consider 5-1 a P4P list worthy record, enough of you clearly do to merit the big guy taking the number 7 spot. So while the 10 looks pretty well for this month, here's a list of fighters you should consider including in your list:

1. Jon Fitch

Lets make this one clear. The only person to defeat Jon Fitch in the past 8 years is the guy holding the top spot on our P4P list, GSP. Holding an overall record of 23-3-0-1, Fitch deserves a look in at the least. Fitch has defeated almost everybody in the Welterweight division in the UFC, completely dominating them, and imposing his will throughout the whole fight. While many dislike his style, the results speak for themselves, dispatching with top contenders such as Paulo Thaigo and Thaigo Alves with relative ease.

2. Shinya Aoki

There are few that don't include Aoki amongst their top 10 Lightweights, but even then it's hard to argue that he doesn't belong on the P4P list. With a record of 25-5-0-1, finishing 15 of these fights by submission, it's difficult to find a Lightweight who has fought better opponents as consistently. Defeating the likes of Joachim Hansen and Eddie Alvarez, before stumbling against Gilbert Melendez, Aoki proved he could hang with the best. After losing to Melendez, Aoki proved his worth by submitting the legendary Tatsuya Kawajiri, and then defeating BJJ black belt Marcus Aurelio in his own game via Decision.

3. Fabricio Werdum

Not that anybody will have forgotten, but cast your minds back to June 26th, Fedor vs Werdum, where one of the most highly decorated BJJ experts entered the cage against one Fedor Emilianenko and shocked the world. The thing is though, a guy with Werdum's credential's, it shouldn't have been such a shock. Werdum is an expert off his back and laid a trap perfectly for Fedor. As well as this, Wedrum also holds a win over Fedor's brother, Alexsander. Most notably, he has also beaten Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga. He is the most decorated BJJ practitioner to make the transition into MMA.

4. Jake Shields

Few can argue with Shields wrestling skills, and few can dispute his place in the Middleweight top 10, but really, Shields deserves a p4p spot. Shields hasn't lost a single fight in almost 6 years, and in that time has beaten a wealth of Middleweight talent, like Robbie Lawler, Mayhem Miller, Paul Daley, and even Dan Henderson. Time and time again, Shields has proven himself by sticking to his wrestling roots, and dominating his opponents, often taking home a unanimous decision. Despite his tendency for going to the score cards, he is all known for his submission skills and defence, training under Ceasar Gracie.

5. Ben Henderson

Currently running the show in the WEC's often overlooked Lightweight division, "The Smooth One" has only tasted defeat once in 13 fights, and only going to decision twice. Henderson is known for utilizing his own brand of guillotine chokes, stopping an incredible 4 opponents with it, and a further 2 more via rear naked choke. At just 26, Henderson looks set to maintain his dominance, following wins over Shane Roller, Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner.

6. Dominick Cruz

Another WEC favourite, Cruz currently wears the promotions Bantamweight strap, despite being relatively new at just 25. Overall, Cruz holds a record of 16-1, losing to a Urijah Faber at the peak of his dominance. Since then, Cruz has defeated all 7 of his opponents, out-wrestling each one in turn. He defeated Brian Bowles at WEC 47. As well as this, Cruz is best known for his two wars against Joseph Benavidez, winning both fights by unanimous decision.

7. Marlon Sandro

Current Featherweight King of Pancrase and Sengoku">Sengoku favourite, Sandro holds an exceptional record of 17-1, only dropping a questionable decision to Michihiro Omigawa. Most consider Sandro second in the world at his weight (behind only Jose Aldo) due to his heavy hands, as well as slick bag of submissions. He is also the Sengoku">Sengoku World Victory Road Featherweight Champion.

8. Gilbert Melendez

Current Strikeforce Lightweight Champ, Melendez looks to be a serious force within the California based company's LW division. Taking the belt from Josh Thomson, Melendez looked almost unstoppable against Shinya Aoki. Using his wrestling and striking skills, he was able to completely dominate both fights. With a rubber match with Thomson looming, another win for "El Nino" would see him cement his status as a real force in his own division.

9. Gegard Mousasi

At the relatively young age of 25, Mousasi is possibly the most active fighter on the list, with an overall record of 30-3-1. Building a cult following in Japan, Mousasi's skill set really gained exposure when he joined Strikeforce, winning the Lightheavyweight belt against Babalu Sobral in a fairly one sided beat down. Despite losing his belt to "King" Mo Lawal, Mousasi was out wrestled and spent most of the fight on his back, but still delivered more damage, and left Mo's face looking like he'd gone ten rounds with Tyson. After this, Mousasi went on to win the DREAM Light Heavyweight Grand Prix, with an eye on regaining his Stirkeforce belt.

10. Jon Jones

A hot prospect if ever there was one, Jones is 11-1, his only loss a poorly handled DQ against Matt Hamill. Since breaking out against Stephan Bonnar, Jones unorthodox style as well as wrestling skills have saw him quickly rise the ranks, as well as become a fan favourite. Jones next fight will be against another prospect, Ryan Bader, in a fight that could gift Jones a future title shot. Never a dull moment in any of his fights, Jones seems to have an endless gas tank, and coupled with his speed, strength and skill, make him a very tricky opponent for anyone to deal with.

I think Shelds, Diaz and Mousasi should be on the list, all three of them have fought in different weight classes and have be really successful in them, but the only problem is that if you want to include these guys then who are you going to take out? theres just too many good fighters to give proper due to everyone

the top 5 seems very solid, i think people have a hard time choosing the rest of the top 10 because most people and websites only use the top 5 for p4p .

with that being said the pound for pound meaning seems to be miss undertand , few people really get what that means.

the easiest example i could think is this one

when you compared a fighter in the p4p rankings just imagine them as the same height and weight and think who would win with all their skills and techniques!

GSP is the best p4p fighter because hes so well rounded that if he was 185 or 205 he will simple outclass the other fighters

he has great stand up , awesome bjj and the best wrestling

so an example would be Champion Dominick Cruz

imagine him at 170 with his wrestling and stand up he would beat most WW there for he is a candidate for p4p top , hes been so dominant that no one at his weight class semms close to him at ANY aspect!

Brock Lesnar should not be even consider in the list since his size is his biggest advantage in his fights , imagine him at 185? could he beat Silva? imagine GSP near 300 pounds do you think Lesnar would stand a chance?

the last top 5 could be easily Frankie , Fitch , Jones , Aoki , Machida , Cruz , Mousasi , Ben Hendo , Marlo Sandro.

as for Alistar , Lesnar and Werdum they dont belong here , but in their respective weight classes

Exactly!! Finally someone gets it. that was the best way to explain it.

of course Georges deserves the number 1 spot.

people already think he can take the spider as he is now.

if he was 6'2" and 210 cutting to 185 he will beat Anderson with his wrestling and since his Jiu Jitsu is so good i doubt Silva can submit him no one has come close to a submission victory over gsp since UFC 50. if Bj Penn could Anderson has a less chance being the same size as GSP.

    I agree to your definition there, I do not have Frankie, Brock or Machida on that list, but I do have Ben henderson, Cain and Mousasi, and let me explain my point for each one;

Frankie, he has speed and technique and he did an amazing job against BJ both times, but his wrestling can be nulified against people like Gray Maynard, so imagine that guy´s skills against GSP´s skills or Cain´s skills he would get his ass kicked...

Machida has done very well against most people except Rua, so imagine his skills against Ben Henderson´s, BJ´s or better Jose Also, not to mention Cain´s.

Brock, his bigest advantage is his size and strength even when he has one of the highest levels of wrestling, without his size he would not be match against BJJ guys or top sprawl and brawlers, his skills are limited to his strenght and size so he is not in my p4p list,

I have Mousasi on my list, he is skills can defeat almost anyone no matter where the fight goes.

I have Ben Henderson who not only he has excellent stand up but if they fight goes to the ground he will use his great JJ

And Finally Cain, his skills are great, and they are not based on size, he has fought guys that are bigger and has take them down and he keeps them there, he can stand up and beat you the only thing I have not seem from him is JJ....

That is the way I see it, I had the guys who I thought that based on skills were the most dangerous guys in MMA at this moment...

That's really dumb, because GSP actually has the chance to fight silva at 185 and it'd probably look alot like BJ penn1, only silva is not BJ penn. He's taller, has better striking, takes his conditioning far more seriously, and can strike from awkward positions with ease.

Silva ACTUALLY fought at multiple weights and dominated so you don't have to say ömg if he was this size". Yea i can't believe you said that GSP would dominate at 185 really....no arguments for why overeem is so amazing as usual.

Brock at 185 would be a dominant wrestler...at 170 he'd be a dominant wrestler. You realize he actually had to wrestle people his size to get over 100 victories? Genius.

I agree, Brock at a different weight might be less effective in some aspects but he would still be at the very least as effective as Gray Maynard. Another one I disagree with is Frankie Edgar. I do not understand how his skills would be "nullified" by a wrestler... Edgar is a wrestler. Yea, he was out-wrestled by Maynard, but Maynard is very strong and skilled at the craft.

As always tho, the p4p debate goes around and around lol

Brock at a different weight would therefore be more agile and less likely to tire, however he'd still retain his relative girth advantage vs other fighters of the same weight.

Yea, not seeing why he would suck. I LOVE how people keep inventing stupid reasons to degrade other wrestlers while hyping GSP up though.

yes GSP has a chance fighting Silva now! but you fail to view the point

IF Gsp was the same size Height and Weight as Silva .

meaning Gsp taller 6'2 and heavier around 210 and cutting to 185.

so making then equal pound for pound . meaning you eliminate the factor of the size advantage so it wont be like BJ vs GSP

so in that case GSP would simple takedown Silva and beat him on the ground he could even submit him his Jiu Jitsu is great and adding more power to him will make it possible.

so yes GSP would dominated at 185 if he was the same size as Silva!

look at Sonnen what he did with just his wrestling dominated Nate,Okami and Silva and GSP is by far better overall fighter

Yea then you could say that if BJ was the same size as GSP then GSP couldn't take him down and bj wins, but i bet you anything you won't like that. Omg look at what sonnen did when he was on steroids and fighting a guy with a rib injury who wanted to use his BJJ....

FITCH is a good ass fighter but he doesnt have the heart to take chances and wanna finish the fight.....idk what you guys think but he ok with just laying on top of a guy the whole fight some GSP started to do alot since his last loss....

While I agree with most of your list, I really can't stand the idea of Fitch as a top p4p fighter. Yeah, he has a great record etc etc, but he's a perfect example of a fighter who's just looking to score points and win each round doing just enough to keep the ref from standing him up. Watching his last few fights, he isn't even attempting to finish his opponents. This has to be a criterion when picking p4p fighters; just because judging in MMA is ****ed up doesn't mean we as fans have to recognize these guys who just show up to grind out a 'victory' while putting us all to sleep.

Yeah, but at the very least GSP looks to advance position and land submissions etc. He finished BJ, battered Fitch and came very close to submitting Hardy. Fitch didn't even come close to finishing low ranked guys like Saunders and Pierce; heck, it didn't even look like he was interested in trying to finish them. That really, really sucks.

Brock is nowhere near any top 10 p4p list in reality, but given some fans were originally wwe fans, and others have an IQ below 110, then it's no surprise to see him there. What skills he has shown that are better than half the lightweights, welterweights or light heavyweights are imaginary, but as he is HW champ the mentally challenged give him the vote. He has won most of his fights purely because of size advantage, and little to do with skill. Couture matched him until he got caught, and even out wrestled him at times in the clinch. take away his size and compare skill sets and he goes way down the list. Beating guys you are much bigger than does not put you high on amy p4p list.

I also don't know why the selection to choose from is so small. There should be many other fighters to choose from rather than a small selection.

I agree, i will take away Brock and add Mousasi or aoki based on their skill and epic wins. If Brock was a WW or a LW he'd be loosing to everybody. Jones is still young but he is a p4p guy sooner or later for sure. He'll defeat Bader and probably outwresltle and outpower SHogun if Rashad cant do it in the first place.

I would personally remove Brock, Lyoto and BJ from the list. Bj would be the hardest to remove just based on the fact that he competed at higher weight classes and is so well rounded and skilled, but I think for current p4p rankings, you have to weigh the more recent performances heavily. BJ and Lyoto have had 2 consecutive poor performances.

2 poor performances for Machida? The first fight against Shogun was a war, with two top class, evenly matched fighters going at it. Being knocked out once should not get you knocked off the p4p list, considering just how good Machida's record is and the caliber of opponent he lost to. Shogun is a beast.

What I believe P4P means is you are good at every aspect of mma. Brock and shields have no stand up so they should not be on the list and Aoki's is pretty weak too. Most of the others like Henderson and Jones are great and will eventually be on the list but they need a few more fights first to truely prove their worth

The fact you post a legitimate point gets weaked proves what idiots troll these sites. P4P of course means that most well rounded fighters are higher than most 1 dimensional fighters, you are 100% correct. And a 1 dimensional fighter who wins with massive size advantage puts you even lower.

totally agree with fitch just because you dont like his style doesnt mean you cant aknowledge his skills he has fought and beaten more top ten guys than most of the people on the list. also the whole p4p thing is kinda a joke it is all really speculation. you can say a guy like jose aldo has way more skill than brock which is true but how do you really compare a 295 pound fighter to a 145 one. you would have to do some insane math problems even to make a decent arguement. like finding the average hand speed of all 145 pounders the grade aldo on a curve then do the same for heavyweights for brock then come up with some number to either multiply it or divide it by to reach some common denominator to compare the two. thats just for hand speed then you have strength conditioning ect ect ect not to mention x factors like heart and skill it is basicly impossible. the only sensible way to look at it is to measure a fighter by dominace in their division and quality of opponents. if you do that then it is no less absurd to have brock than it is to have aldo. where aldo has been more dominant but brock even with his 6 fights has fought the better competiton

Aldo dont fight with 40lb advantage over his opponents, and he don't go foetal when hit. Brock is far from well rounded, but has massive advantage over most of his opponents from weight and size. Look at the flaws carwin highlighted, if it weren't for bad cardio and flailing madly instead of picking his shots, Carwin would now be on this list in Lesnars place. The only 2 HW's that belong anywhere near a p4p list are Cain and Fedor.

It might be a little pre mature, but its ok in my book. He is that good, especially when he KO's Bader!

I really like what I have seen from Jon Jones so far but he needs more fights against top 10 guys in the LHW division to really establish himself. I'm looking forward to his challenges being harder and seeing how he responds to elite level of competition.

hey i agree and i think the same about ryan bader, lets see either of them fight a forrest griffin, a rich franklin, rampage jackson, tit ortiz, i dont see how a jones beating bader or bader beating jones would get either a title shot, lets see them beat some established contenders or former champs!

I wasn't convinced Bader should have won his last fight. Nog guaged the distance better and caused him more problems over the 3 rounds. Jones will destroy him if he performs like that again.

i dont like all the hypotheticals, its not making sense you cant compare 155 to heavy weight, its like comparing ty cobb to albert pujols, or wilt chamberlain to shaq,, the only thing no one can really dipsute is silva and gsp are the top 2 fighters, so i say lets see them fight at a catch weight, make it the highest selling event of all time both in their prime, UFC dont let it go any further both have dominated their divisions, do it now while you still can have them both at their peak! 180 would be a pefect catch weight

There are plenty of fighters to choose from and they change each month based on recent activity. Furthermore, most of the fighters you have name are available, if not in p4p then in their respective weight class. It is a rankings list, not a list of your favorite fighters. LowKick already offers a favorite fighter feature on your profile.
