Think about this... it took EA years to perfect it's sport games. Madden wasn't that great when it first started... THQ has been making games like this for a long time. This will be 2 years now for THQ's UFC games. EA's Boxing sucked for using the control stick to throw a punch. Now EA's MMA is doing the same. UFC is going to be better IMO. But I'm still going to buy both.
THQ has been making games similar to this Dumb A**... ummmm WWE and sh*t. So now they use the same mechanics in UFC. "Fight Nights" suck, due to the fact they use control sticks to punch.
Graphically looks very good, Gameplay can't tell yet.
One thing that worries me though, EA mentioned it uses a version of the Fight Night 4 engine, modified to add a ground game. I didnt enjoy FN4 at all compared to UFC, it felt way too arcadey and lost the technical aspects of the series.
If EA MMA has the same arcadey "feel" as FN4 did, I dont see it doing very well.
Man I loved the Fight Night Round 4 punch control.
It takes a little bit getting used to, because you have to be really percise with the analog stick. You cant just mash buttons or throw the stick in any direction and expect to throw the punch you want.
But I guess if you like to mash buttons or yank the analog widly then you might not like how percise the controls are.
Vote me down if you like, but I truly believe EA makes MUCH better sports games than THQ.
what i know this but after mastering the first 3 and them changing it so u cant pick ur configuration.shit sucked and i will not buy another fightnight game unless they change it back i bought it brand new and couldnt play it i returned it like two days after i got it i was so pissed
Interesting. Graphics look pretty good but gameplay seems a little robotic. Good thing however, is the fact they have fighter introductions. keep those fingers crossed undisputed 2010 does something along those lines as well.
This game will look amazing and play like shit. UFC will look shit but the gameplay will be amazing. If that's not how it turns out I'll eat my hat. Because THQ have always been gameplay over graphics since the N64 days, and EA have always been graphics over gameplay.
Unless the habit of a lifetime is about to be broken, and I doubt it.
It's got some cool new elements, like the rule changes etc, but if it plays like a Brick then who cares? If it's just the image you care about, just watch a fight. If you like GAMES and you understand and seek out PLAYABILITY then UFC will be your game of choice.
This game is like, instead of buying the Major League Baseball game you buy the AAA Farm League game, it's still the same sport but you would rather be the Yamkees instead of the Buffalo Bisons.
you guys act like ufc 2009 had amazing gamplay.....plz ****in rock em sock em robot fighters that were clones of their styles. i dont know why people got so worked up about that game being good.
Assuming you learned all of the mechanics, it actually was a good game, although it did need some tweaking to the submission/counter engine (For example, Brock doing a reversal guillotine and submitting Big Nog and having no chance at all at escaping due to it being a strength sub, just dont make sense), and CAF fighters were completely unbalanced.
One of the big problems of people who didnt enjoy the game much is they only used CAF's - the real strategic fights where you had to use gameplans was the ufc-only fights.
If you had some friends that you reguarly played with and learned eachothers styles, and had to figure out how to counter eachother, it was an awesome game. First game to be reminiscent of playing the old N64 wrestling game, except alot more in-depth.
i played the game a lot because unfortunately, it was the only current gen mma game. but i got bored when i quickly realized that each fighter is the exact same carbon copy of their style. the way chuck liddell and GSP fought were exactly the same when it came to the way they punched or kicked (except for like 1 unique move each) beyond that the differences were only in stats. this was the same when it came to how lyoto machida fought and how cro cop fought. they were pretty much the same in the stand up department despite being vastly different in real life. even the way the fighters blocked, walked and stance was exactly the same. their was also little fluidity, people stood on in front of eachother in the exchanges and both would try and flick the stick up or down to catch each other's strikes.
once people got good at the game and went high up into ranked matches, they usually saw the game for what it was worth. shallow.
On a gameplay aspect, its up in the air. Kinda made me giggle at all the fighters they promoted in the trailer. Someone above made a good point about why buy NCAA when u can buy NBA...
Its a shame they couldnt combine UFC rosters with other organizations, considering the name of the game is "MMA"
Looks like a great game, but how the hell did Lashley have better boxing than Sam's Club. Also for a good fighting game you don't have to get all of the best fighters, just make the game great and the rest will take care of itself
idn...seems aaight. But how is Lashley gonna run up to Rogers and turn his lights off with a haymaker uppercut? Thats just madd uncharacteristic of both of them.

looks very epic.. this will put the UFC game to shame..
looks shit

Madden sucked when it first came out... in 1988!!!
wtf of course it wasnt that great, but for the time period it really wasnt half bad.
And its good that EA takes years to perfect its sports games not bad...
New technology and systems that comes out along with feedback from people who play the game help the game grow.
"THQ has been making games like this for a long time"
They made a Pride FC game in 2003 and some boxing games since then.
EA has had some good boxing games since 2002, so i dont know how you can say that THQ has been making these games for a long time and EA hasn't.
Once a genre of game becomes successful you can guarentee the next year a rival company will produce a game that is very similar.
THQ has been making games similar to this Dumb A**... ummmm WWE and sh*t. So now they use the same mechanics in UFC. "Fight Nights" suck, due to the fact they use control sticks to punch.
OMG are you kidding me?? **** UFC Undisputed, this looks amazing !!
i'm getting both games
im a mma fan **** EA vs THQ (strikeforce vs. ufc)

I wish they would have made the UFC game.
what i know this but after mastering the first 3 and them changing it so u cant pick ur configuration.shit sucked and i will not buy another fightnight game unless they change it back i bought it brand new and couldnt play it i returned it like two days after i got it i was so pissed
and they prob. lost alot of money on it if i knew before hand i wouldnt of bought it
i agree FN4 was very hard to really play with skills
it was more like luck and skills just to counter punch!
the joystick to use all the punchs was very hard to control
so if they do the same on the game it will be a waste
but lucky to us we have 2 games to choose i will have to watch videos or download the demos before i decide witch one i will buy
It's not just that, but also the punches in FN4 felt like they had no power behind them. I hated that.
im still going to buy ufc 2010 no matter what because of the live play but ill rent this to try it out
Looks great man , cant wait for this game and the ufc 2010 !
Gonne buy them both !

How can that be weak? Some people on the internet are actually retarded.

WOW is all I can say. This will make Dana tinkle in his diapers.

Hey, it looks pretty good to me. So I may get both this and Ufc 2010
