While it won't be inside the octagon, it appears Nick Diaz may be returning to action sooner than expected.

According to MMAFighting.com, both his manager, Cesar Gracie, and The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo have confirmed that "The Stockton Bad Boy" will compete in a "BJJ Superfight" at the WJJE in May.

A black-belt under Gracie, Diaz has competed in such matches in previous years, but would traditionally be prohibited from doing so while actively signed for a fight in mixed martial arts. Last seen at UFC 143, however, Nick Diaz announced his retirement from the sport after coming up short on the judges' scorecards against Carlos Condit.

Though mixed reports regarding his furture in MMA have followed, a positive post-fight drug test and his subsequent suspension by the NSAC appear to have afforded Diaz ample oppourtinity to participate in the BJJ contest. His opponent is yet to be determined.

The World Jiu-Jitsu Expo's inaugural event is set to take place May 12th at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. For more information on the Expo, visit the official WJJE Website.

Diaz vs Souza would be awesome, in a straight BJJ contest, I think Jacare would be too much.

Nick is a great BJJ player but he would get destroyed by Souza.

Souza is one of the best jits players of all time.

Seeing Diaz in action again will be a welcome bonus for all his fans. It's just a matter of time before he's back in the cage cleaning out the division.

I am glad that Nick is staying busy. It is an opportunity to continue to hone his skills and test himself in an are where he is strong. I hope it is an avenue back to cage fighting at some point. I do not believe he is truly retired.

I wish BJ ( who is retired) would compete in BJJ only contests like this one and Abu Dhabi.

This article forgot to mention why he retired from The UFC... Blind judges gave the victory to the running man Carlos..

So yes it's awesome to see Nick Diaz in competitions... From MMA, to triathlon, to now "BJJ Superfight"....Awesome... War Diaz..
