Ya I really think Vera should have been given another shot, like you said the close decision against Couture (which many people thought he would), then Jones has smashed everyone and I thought from the start SIlva was too tough of a fight if he was going to be facing release. You shouldnt have to beat a top ten guy just to keep your job.

But the problem is, he has honestly become a huge liability for the UFC. Having his face fractured in 3 places last match, and this match getting one of MMA's worst broken noses.

It's no shocker they dont want to keep him around..

Marcus Davis should not have been dropped. He was winning that fight hands down and got caught in the third. I guess it is one of the draw backs of fighting in such a stacked division but seriously, that is a super lame move by Zuffa.

It's such a shame that a guy like him gets cut... He once was the undefeated up and new comer, confident and stylish.

What bugs me the most about him getting cut is the fact that i truly believe he's got all the tools to be an excellent fighter that beats everybody, but why the hell is he so gun shy and hesitant?? Bad mindset maybe...

Anyway, good luck Brandon, maybe fighting in a lower ranked organisation will get the pressure off your shoulders and you'll start winning again.

decent fighter with horrible gameplans and just doesn't seem to be able to cope with the mental strength and toughness needed for fighting in the 205 division. he needs to go win a few and work on his takedown defence and his ground game before he can get another shot.

Looks like Strike Force's 205 lb division is about to get stronger. I think he will do well over there.

This is why Strikeforce exists; to become a new home to great fighters. Not to mention, put on amazing fights the UFC seems to lack these days.

Vera will be signed by SF within the next month and he will be in competition again sometime around summer! I'd love to be Scott Coker these days. SF is about MMA. UFC is turning out to be WWE. It's only a matter of time before each fighter has a story line.

it's imperative sf does NOT sign vera. they need to distance themselves from the ufc and work on rearing their own young talented fighters like woodley and rosario, not just be a refugee camp for down and out ufc fighters.

SF has been making a point of avoiding UFC drops. I don't think they will sign Vera unless he puts together a good run in smaller promotions first.

Hasn't his wife fought in SF? Another known name wouldn't hurt SF's 205 line-up.

Good point. SF had Cain before the UFC did. SF has been assembling a solid crew of their own. However, to test these products, they need talent and Vera is a talent and he can do some damage if he changes his mindset up.

They should do what they did with Daily honestly, let him go on the smaller but legit shows and get 2-3 wins and then sign him.

In the standup against Silva, Vera was winning--but Vera's ground game was not good enough and was easily taken down. Once down, Vera had trouble getting up again.

Silva seems to have improved his ground game since losing to Rashad. Vera, after losing to Couture, didn't improve his ground skills.

vera doesnt have anything to offer for the LHW division but he could still put on a great stand up show with another brawler, i would have given him another shot

What you speak of may be true, but what choice do they have? I don't think they intend to keep those types of fighters around (the lay and pray, let's-eak-out-a-victory crowd). The decision has to be based on progress/victories, not unintended consequences.

Until there's a rules change or a yellow card, this type of evolution in the type of fighters succeeding will not change.

BTW, I'm not including Silva in when I talk about "those types of fighters."

Great job Dana/Fertitas... keep releasing great fighters who can actually strike because they are loosing to equally great fighters, and keep sucking upon boring wrestlers who grind out wins by playing it safe.

After all those releases do you really expect your fighters to be loose and give their best in a fight, or do you expect them to secure judge decissions?

Vera just looked like a victim in his last two fights, I'd have dropped him as well since he just isn't bringing it. Marcus Davis on the other hand I would not have dropped. He was looking great and lost due to the fact that he is an exciting fighter.
