Legendary heavyweights "The Last Emperor" Fedor Emelianenko (31-4, 1 NC) and Jeff "The Snowman" Monson (42-12) will headline the upcoming M-1 Global: Fedor vs. Monson card, set to take place Sunday, November 20th from the Olympic Arena in Moscow, Russia.
“Fedor has been very vocal about wanting to continue his fighting career,” said Evgeni Kogan, Director of Operations for M-1 Global. “Fedor vs. Monson is a classic fight that had been in our crosshairs for years. All parties have come together to make this fight a reality.”
Regarded as one of MMA’s greatest heavyweight fighters of all time, Emelianenko has been challenged as late, losing his last three bouts after going undefeated for nearly a decade. The losses came at the hands of Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. Hungry to compete, "The Last Emperor" still has the drive to battle top competitors. “I cannot wait to compete again. Monson is a great athlete who is skilled in many areas. He is a very worthy opponent,” said Emelianenko.
Coming off of a loss to Daniel Cormier, the 40-year-old Monson is a two-time Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Wrestling World Championships gold medalist and considered extremely dangerous on the ground with more than half of his 42 career wins coming by way of submission.
Though Emelianenko is coming off of three straight losses, Monson holds the Russian in high regard; “Fedor is the best heavyweight of all time… It’s an honor to be fighting him.” Asked about what a win would mean, Monson didn’t mince words; “A win would be a highlight to my career. My trainers at American Top Team will prepare me for all possibilities. I’ll be prepared.”
As hype builds toward the legendary match-up between Emelianenko and Monson, preparations by M-1 Global are already well underway for the promotion's October 14th event in Phoenix, Arizona. M-1 Challenge: Guram vs. Garner 2, from the new 5,500 seat Grand Canyon University Arena, marks the promotion’s third outing on the premium US network Showtime and is headlined with two title fights: Reigning Heavyweight Champion Guram Gugenishvili (11-0) will face relentless power-puncher Kenny ‘Deuce’ Garner (7-3), while BJJ ace Vinny Magalhaes (8-5) makes his inaugural Light Heavyweight title defense against Mikhail Zayats (14-5).

Fedor's going to destroy him........ Too bad it doesn't mean SH** !!!
I don't know if anybody has seen the new Fedor pictures, but he looks in phenomenal shape, it looks like he started to weight-lift again. I'm always excited to watch Fedor fight, no matter the competition. Jeff is in the top 20, i think, and Fedor is no longer in the top 10 so matchmaking makes sense here. We have to see is it's to little to late for him to start taking fighting seriously again. Only reason i say that is that he's been or seems to have been on a down-slope of training and maintaining his body conditioned unlike 3-4 years ago.
cool man, share the link. where did you see his new pics
He can't loose, his friend Putin will be there.
I am going to sound like the AHole here but here goes another BS Fedor fight. So they merged the fighting company's all the fights I want to see are starting to happen....ie Diaz/ Gsp Pen/Diaz Overeem/Brock Shields/anyone who can actually fight.....Once again Fedor has pulled back and is out of fighting any good competition. I love Fedor win/lose but damn I'm tired of his BS fights with his BS record!
he can't fight in UFC at the moment. Do you have a better fighter for him to fight? I'm not sure what you mean by BS record. He won. You can call anybodies record BS, that includes BJ Penn, GSP, Silva, Cain, JJ, Rampage, Suga, Forrest, Brock, Carwin, the list goes on and on. If you can give us a logical argument to his BS record that would be great. Also, when Fedor fights anybody everybody calls it a BS fight, this fight is pretty much the only fight in the past years he hasnt fought a Top Ten guy, lets not forget he isn't top ten guy at the moment so it makes perfect sense to me, but lets hear what you gotta say.
Fedor fought more top ten guys when they were in the top ten than any other top HW ever.
I am undefeated in bar fights but throw me in against any top 20 heavy weight and more than likely I would get KTFO. Then again I would atleast nutt up. Name one guy Top 10 he has fought and not lost to in "his" weight class minus Nogueira. Take in account those 3 fights were in 03/ 04 and this is 2011. They could have strikeforce his fights and he would have been just fine. This is a BS fight!
Remember when your teacher said there are no stupid questions? You just asked the one actual stupid question that exists in our multi-verse. Here you go. Ricardo Arona, Mark Coleman (first fight), Noguiera, Cro Cop, Tim Sylvia, Andre Arlovski and Brett Rogers were all ranked in the top ten when Fedor beat them. There are probably even a few more that are arguable, especially some Japanese fighters that I am not that familiar with.
Fedor fought more top fighters at the moment than anybody else in HW divisions. Just look at any ranking at the moment of his every fight. In after Pride days, he fought Silvia, who was ranked top 5, later Arlovski ranked top 3, he was supposed to fight Barnett ranked 2. Brett Rogers was top 10 and undefeated, Werdum was ranked top 10 and Silva top 10.
uhm ok.. Did anybody see the Mayweather-Ortiz weigh-in video? That was intense!
I can't watch boxing. It has to be the most boring combative sport other than wrestling to watch. If Mayweather and Paqio ever fight I might watch that... maybe.
I rather watch Mayweather's runaway-self go at it with Ortiz than watching Jake Shields dry humping someone for 3 rounds. You want boring? That's boring right there!

Cool. Looks like he might be training more and praying less finally. Hopefully he will get a few meaningful wins and go fight for UFC but I doubt it. Best we can realistically hope for is that he fights the best outside of the UFC.
