Bellator 70 Recap and Results

7271702362 d93c81f56bBellator 70 took place in Harrah’s New Orleans, Louisiana, on Friday. Bellator 70 was the season finale for the promotion which featured the Lightweight division finals, the semifinal in the Bantamweight division and a Heavyweight title fight.

Former US judo Olympian, Rick Hawn defeated Brent Weedman in the Lightweight Tournament Final Fight and will go on to face Michael Chandler. Luis Nogueira defeated Hiroshi Nakamura in the Bantamweight Tournament Semifinal via a third round TKO and will fight Marcos Galvao next.

In a fight remniscent of the old days of MMA (a pure striker vs. a wrestler), Heavyweight Champion Cole Konrad successfully defended his title against the challenger, Eric Prindle in a bout that lasted 60 seconds. Prindle was a boxer in the US Army and came out strong throwing a combination that would have been destructive to another pugilist. Prindle slipped in for the clinch and took him down in 20 seconds, then cranked a kimura on him and finished him in the first minute of the first round.

Rick Clementi (42-21-1) fought his 65th professional fight against Derek Campos, a man who was 12 years younger than him. Clementi won by Guillotine choke at 4:18 in the first round, showing that he is not quite ready to hang up his gloves and mouthpiece.
