Report: Antonio Silva vs. Fedor Emelianenko In The Works

Antonio Silva vs. Fedor Emelianenko

MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko is scheduled to fight for the former Pride President Nobuyuki Sakakibara in his new MMA promotion (Rizin Fighting Federation) on December 31st, 2015, but still does not have an opponent.

A new report has come out from renowned Russian state-sponsored sport’s media website Sportbox.ru. According to the website,  Rizin Fighting Federation is interested in signing Antonio Silva to set up a rematch against Emelianenko. The promotion has reportedly contacted Silva about a potential fight, but Silva has yet to get back to them.

Silva is currently on a one-fight losing streak. In his last six bouts, he’s 1-4-1.  Silva is coming off a first round KO loss to Mark Hunt at UFC 193.

Silva and Emelianenko have fought before. In 2011, Silva beat Emelianenko by second round TKO via doctor stoppage.

The promotion will hold the December 31st event at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event will air on Spike TV.

Emelianenko had not fought since October 7th, 2011, which was when he announced his retirement following a first-round knockout of Pedro Rizzo. Emelianenko is 3-3 in his last six, but after a three-fight losing streak in his last three Strikeforce appearances, he ripped off three straight wins. In his last two bouts, he won by the first-round knockout over less quality opponents.
