Quote: No Other Woman But Rousey Could Carry A PPV

At this point, it seems as if Ronda Rousey will stick around the fight game and return sometime next year to challenge for the UFC 135-pound title that she so shockingly lost at the hands of Holly Holm earlier this month.

However, there are some that do believe that the “Rowdy” one’s fighting days are over, or at least that the end could be near.

If that were to indeed happen, recently retired UFC fighter Brendan Schaub said that the promotion could take quite a hit, noting that Rousey is one of a kind:

“What’s going to be interesting to see in the UFC — let’s just say Ronda was like ‘f–k this noise, I’m out, I’ve got so much money I’m Scrooge McDuck of girls’ so she peaces out, what happens to women’s MMA?” Schaub said when speaking on the Joe Rogan podcast this past weekend. “Cause you can paint it how you want but Ronda made women’s MMA. She’s a superstar. There’s no other headliner like her.”

Continuing on, Schaub made his opinion very clear, saying that there’s actually no other woman that could headline a pay-per-view (PPV) besides Rousey.

The UFC seems to be breeding strawweight contender Paige VanZant for this very role as a star, but Schaub just doesn’t see it:

“You can’t have Paige (VanZant) as a main event on a pay-per-view. Would never happen. That’s not a main event. It’s not going to sell pay-per-views. (Ronda) was a superstar since day one,” Schaub said.

“””She’s not Ronda Rousey — (Paige) could be but right now if Ronda dips out, Holly Holm vs. Miesha Tate is a co-main event. It’s a co-main event. There’s a dude as a main event, there’s no other girl right now who could carry a pay-per-view card. You’re bat s–t crazy. The UFC knows that.”

Aside from Rousey, the biggest name in woman’s mixed martial arts (MMA) could possibly be Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino, who has been attempting to cut down to the bantamweight limit to meet Rousey for a super fight.

According to Schaub, “Cyborg” as champion would simply the hurt the sport. As for Holm, the former heavyweight contender just doesn’t feel as if she’ll be able to do what the “Rowdy” one did for the sport:

“I’m just saying what Ronda did for the sport, there’s no one even close,” Schaub stated. “Right now, every other girl’s a co-main event. I’m just saying women’s MMA, if Ronda peaces out, has a long way to go and ‘Cyborg’ isn’t your answer. If ‘Cyborg’ is your champ, it kills women’s MMA for a little bit and Holly (Holm) doesn’t have the personality to carry the torch the way that Ronda does.”
