Hot on the heels of the announcement that September 5’s UFC 191 would feature a flyweight title rematch in the form of Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson and also the return of Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, the UFC is looking to add even more firepower to the growing card from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

A report arrived from MMA Fighting that top-ranked featherweight Frankie Edgar’s management team Dominance MMA has informed them that the former lightweight champion has agreed to fight on the card, but an opponent has not yet been found for the New Jersey native. According to the report, sources said Edgar’s likelihood of fighting on the card is currently even at 50/50.

‘The Answer’ has long campaigned for a title shot after winning four straight bouts at 145-pounds following a close debut loss to longtime division champ Jose Aldo. He pushed for an interim title bout against new champ Conor McGregor when Aldo pulled out of July 11’s UFC 189, but Chad Mendes ultimately got the fight and was finished at the end of the second round.

If Edgar doesn’t fight at UFC 191, he wants to come back at October 3’s UFC 192 from Houston.

The UFC is also apparently trying to book heavyweight Alistair Overeem on the card. ‘The Demolition Man’ has won three out of his last four bouts, most recently defeating Roy Nelson with a lopsided decision at March’s UFC 185 from Dallas, Texas.

It was confirmed earlier that popular rising women’s strawweight Paige VanZant would be returning to face TUF 20 veteran Alex Chambers on the card.
