Erick Silva Embarrassed By His Performance Against Neil Magny

Although one judge scored the bout for Erick Silva, it was pretty clear to everyone else watching that Silva had dropped a very one-sided decision loss to Neil Magny at this past weekend’s (August 23, 2015) UFC Fight Night 74 from Saskatoon, SK, Canada.

Magny took the fight on extremely short notice, but he showed no signs of a lack of training camp, as he completely dominated the fight from the exchanges to the grappling scrambles, and Silva knows that. The Brazilian took to his official Instagram account, stating that he’s embarrassed by the performance he put on.

Silva seemed to be teasing a possible injury that he may have had, but at the end of the day he called his performance “ridiculous” and said that he deserved to lose:

“Honestly, I didn’t like my performance,” Silva wrote. “I was defeated. I’m embarrassed with my performance, my body. I know I’m way more than this Erick that fought last night. My main mistake was having insisted on fighting, and put not only my head at stake but also my coaches’ and doctors’ who did the best they could to at least get me to the fight. It wasn’t a good month for me, but no one has to know, it’s no one’s problem. I had a ridiculous performance and deserved to lose. I paid the price for it.”

Continuing on, Silva said that never again will he step into the Octagon unless 100% healthy. If he has a nagging injury, he said he’ll cancel the fight just like “everyone else” does:

“The only thing left for me is to guarantee that the next time I step inside that Octagon again I will be 100 percent physically, no injuries, and with a full training camp,” he wrote. “Otherwise, I’ll do like everyone does, and cancel the fight.”

Heading into UFC Fight Night 74, Silva was riding a pair of first-round submission victories, but his performance was lack luster to say the least, and he has been criticized for being inconsistent throughout his UFC career. Where does the Brazilian stand in the welterweight division moving forward?
