Heading into his blockbuster interim title fight against Chad Mendes in the main event of Saturday’s (July 11, 2015) UFC 189 pay-per-view (PPV) from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, it’s safe to say that Conor McGregor is one of the most confident fighters in the UFC, if not the most.

He’s brashly predicted a vicious finish of each and every top featherweight in the division, and he’s delivered for the most part with four finishes in five total wins in the UFC. But today he’s apparently taking his confidence to an all-new level, as UFC President Dana White revealed on The Jim Rome Show that McGregor wants to bet UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta the sum of million that he will knock out Mendes in the second round this Saturday:

“You want to know how confident this kid is?” White asked. “I can’t even believe I’m going to say this, but, he told Lorenzo and I the other day ‘I’ll bet you $3 million I knock him out in the second round.'”

White went on to say that, despite his reputation as a gambler, he might not be willing to take that wager. He then gushed about his ‘Notorious’ star, calling him ‘fascinating’ and fun to watch:

“I like to bet, I don’t know if I’m that willing to take that bet,” White said. “When I tell you how extremely confident this guy is in himself, it’s fascinating. He is a very unique, fascinating person to listen to. Fun to listen to, and fun to watch.”

Many fans the world over agree with White’s sentiment, and perhaps nearly as many would never put their money against ‘Notorious.’ However, making a perfect round prediction on Mendes, who has only been knocked by a single legendary knee from Jose Aldo at UFC 142, is a bold statement to rest million dollars on.
