Alexander Emelianenko, the brother of mixed martial arts (MMA) legend Fedor ‘The Last Emperor‘ Emelianenko, has been sentenced to a lengthy jail stay for his latest run-in with the law.

According to a report from the Russian Legal Information Agency, Emelianenko was given a four-and-a-half year prison term for sexually assaulting his former housekeeper Polina Stepanova on the evening of March 2, 2014. The investigation into the crime found that he assaulted and raped the 27-year-old woman before robbing her of her passport.

Emelianenko firmly insisted that the sex was consensual in entering a plea of not guilty, but was convicted of the serious transgression nonetheless.

The prosecution for the trial, which was held behind closed doors in Russia, pushed for a five-year prison sentence for Emelianenko. He was also issued a 50,000 ruble ($1,000 USD) fine for the conviction.

A former Pride veteran himself, the volatile brother of Fedor showed none of his widely respected calm and religious demeanor outside the cage. Alexander was well documented as having been involved in many alleged and confirmed violent incidents in the past.

The report stated that Emelianenko has repeatedly been involved in ‘scandals’ as the result of heavy drinking, with a supposed case of him assaulting a retired patron at a Moscow cafe being thrown out when an out-of-court settlement was reached.

Emelianenko’s sentence will ensure that he’s unable to get involved with any similar situations for the time being. Fedor retired in 2012 to fade off into the sunset and teach the sport of MMA to young fighters in his native Russia; unfortunately his brother Alexander has witnessed a much more tragic fate as of today.
