Upon signing with Bellator MMA, former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen made it clear that he was targeting a November bout with former UFC light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz. “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” doesn’t seem willing to comply to Sonnen’s plans, however:

“Chael calling me out on November 2nd? I’m the one who calls the shots, not him! We’ll fight in January. We’re not going to fight in November,” Ortiz told Submission Radio. I’m gonna give him some time to get used to being at his weight, off of steroids, so he can train through that time. November 17th is not happening. I’m calling the shots, not Chael Sonnen. Yeah he talks well, yeah he does his thing, but no, this is my weight class. I’m the one who calls the shots. Tito Ortiz is gonna call the shots.”

Ortiz has been away from the cage since suffering a defeat to current Bellator 205-pound titleholder Liam McGeary last September.

Sonnen, on the other hand, hasn’t competed since he was mauled by Rashad Evans at UFC 167 in 2013. He spent much of the time after that bout dealing with a two-year suspension handed to him by the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to multiple failed drug tests.

While Ortiz doesn’t seem interested in squaring off with Sonnen this November, it’s still expected that “The American Gangster” will make his promotional debut around that time.
