Dynamite!! 2010 Results: Overeem destroys Todd Duffee, Aoki knocked out by Nagashima
Posted on December 31, 2010, 10:57 AM by Anton GurevichFEG presented today its last event of the year, with a stacked top-to-bottom Dynamite!! 2010 fight card. The event was headlined by DREAM Welterweight Title fight between the legendary Kazushi Sakuraba and Marius Zaromskis, as superstars such as Alistair Overeem, Shinya Aoki, Gegard Mousasi and Minowaman all took park in the action.
Alistair Overeem managed to end the year with an exclamation mark, after defeating ex-UFC prospect Todd Duffee in just 19 seconds. Duffee rushed at Overeem in the opening seconds of the fight, but was quickly pushed to the corner where Overeem executed a simple left-right combo, which sent his opponent out cold down to the canvas. Overeem improved his MMA record to 34-11, currently enjoying a 9-fight winning streak.
Ubereem finishes 2010 with two MMA bouts - Todd Duffee and Brett Rogers. Victory over Duffee also awarded the Dutchman an Interim DREAM Heavyweight Title, in addition to the already won Strikeforce Heavyweight Title and K-1 2010 WGP Title.
Earlier, top ranked Lightweight Shinya Aoki was brutally knocked out by K-1 Max veteran Yuichiro "Jienotsu" Nagashima. It was a mixed rules fight, with first round being under K-1 rules and second under DREAM MMA rules. Aoki avoided Nagashima at all costs during the first round, in what was probably the most bizarre (or maybe embarassing) round of the year. The fight went to Shinya Aoki's favored MMA rules round, but in all irony it was exactly when Nagashima was able to catch the DREAM Lightweight Champion. Aoki dived for a takedown, catching nothing but Yuichiro Nagashima's knee, that knocked Tobikan Judan out cold.
It was clearly the most unnecessary fight of the year, which did nothing but hurt Aoki's image as one of the leading fighters in Mixed Martial Arts today. Aoki finished 2010 with a 3-2 record, having his previous loss in a Strikeforce Lightweight title fight against Gilbert Melendez at Strikeforce: Nashville.

Shocker Overeem knocked out Duffee, nobody saw that coming.
Please Alistair come to the UFC.
It looked like Duffee just came out for the paycheck. Overall a great card, i stayed up all night to watch the fights. Saku's ear = gross. Although i think Overeem is getting a bit ****y. Trigg was a funny commentator. I love how the card was an even rather then just a card with fights. Aoki was a disappointment, all he has to do is work on his striking it would make things so much easier for him to set up takedowns etc.
Duffee came out to fight! not just for the paycheck!
he got KO because Alistar is a Beast!!
the UFC should consider his recent statements about Strikeforce top fighters!
Alistar and Fedor look way more serious than Cain and Dos Santos.
just imagine Fedor vs Cain and Alistar vs Dos Santos!
the 2 biggest fights in history for the Heavyweights!
I don't know, he came out to fight. But his eyes tell me a different story. But most of all he acted like he expected to get knocked out, after the fight. Again it's just my observations.
I think Duffee came out to fight he's just not in the same league as overem, the guy was 6-1 coming into this fight and had never faced anyone close to the top 10. Maybe give Duffee three years and he could match Overeem.
Those two matchups would be incredible in the dream world where we could have a mini co-promoted 4 man tournament. i think Overeem takes out JDS pretty easy actually and Velasquez grinds out a decision or tko's fedor and then we see who the best HW is. All the trainers and everyone keeps saying how good Cain is but Overeem's striking is so good and we can't forget he has a legit ground game too.
We could get our dream match if mma was made into a olympic sport or was in the asian games. One of the 2 biggest multi-sport events with the olympics being #1.
I don't know if the world games is #3 or not, but having mma being in that could also fulfill our dreams.
So far I only see 2 things stopping that from greatest to least
1) people still feel mma is dog fighting
2) UFC being ass holes
3) *surprise*! UFC being ass holes
and 4) the rulings that the events might go by could screw things up
i am excited about the reem as anyone and belive that one day he may be the top heavyweight. but the truth is he hasnt fought a top ten mma fighter in years. what he has been fighting are cans with just enough reconigtion to not make the fight a complete joke. yes i do consider todd duffe on one weeks notice a can. next year i would like to see him fight fedor, barnnett, werdum, and big foot if at least three of these fights happen and he wins them then we can start calling him the best
he was hitting reem hard. its not his fault that the guy doesnt feel punches
I agree with you, the result its ok but the way it did was too easy for me, is not that he dont want to win, is just he lost the fight before started, its a mental stuff. He was to agressive in the begining and the result was very predictable after that point.
Seems like the first fight crocop did in the ufc, the oponent start swinging from the begining like crazy... he lost the fight before started. And now that Overeem wins the k-1 belt he has that "aura" of invencible that helped so many fighter in the past....
Fedor, Cain, JDS wont fel that way against him.
Oh and Gegard looked great. Anybody who thinks he's overrated it is mentally challenged.
Agreed...just because he lost one fight ppl discredit his abilities n past victories...Mousasi is a beast one of the best in MMA
Wow...Aoki got KOd... I really didn't see that coming.
I knew Nagashima would catch him....Did u see the fight tho?? I actually laughed when Aoki got KO'd just because he basically ran around in the first round n then got KO'd in the MMA round
I am not a huge fan of Aoki but that whole fight was to his disadvantage since he could have had the guy in the first multiple times. Why have afight with different rules for each round? Joke setup if you ask me. Aoki needs to train standup for sure but this guy he fought tonight was lucky even then to get that shot. I was hoping this would blast Bloodstain with a reality check for Aoki being a top fighter but to me he this fight only proves that if you take away his weapons for a round you might just catch him unable to defend. Good for the resume of the other guy I guess.
I watched the whole fight. The rules kind of hurt him, but Nagashima made Aoki pay for being an idiot throughout the entire first round.
Aoki act a fool, Aoki be made a fool.
Love it.
duffe got screwed up and so did aoki but the mixed rule bouts are kinda dumb like seriously whats the point of that why dont they just do one or the other. and allistair needs to come to the ufc. he wouldnt destroy the division but it would make for some good fights
Actually, he would almost certainly destroy all but a few guys.
mayby now Dana will start giving Overeem the respect he deserves as a fighter
This is what he will say: "Todd Duffee? Let's be honest here. We cut that guy from the UFC because he lost. Nothing against Todd Duffee, but come on man."
Although he really got cut due to a contract dispute...
Dana's argument was never that Overeem wasnt a great fighter... Just that he wasnt fighting MMA. How many times does he have to clarify the same statement anyway.
Well he does say he's not top 10 which is kind of the same as saying he's not a great (mma) fighter but we all should know by now that Dana doesn't mean half of what he says about the caliber of fighters in other organizations.
Yea I agree. Thats what I meant tho, he back-peddled on the statement and said that he only felt he wasnt top ten because he hadnt been fighting in MMA for so long.
Ala Werdum.
thats right mate hes a B I A T CH
haha very true man
If Overeem comes to the UFC, he could kill the cred of all the UFC heavyweights. I don't think Dana wants that.
Wow! What a fight--all 19 seconds of it.
I don't know if this proves anything except to reinforce what we already knew--Overeem is a formidable striker.
Duffee probably was trying for his only hope, that is to swarm Overeem and get in a power punch in the scramble. Overeem did not panic, but responded like the cool professional he is.
Duffee was still gripping his mid-section from an Overeem knee when the knock-out punch landed. Overeem's alternating use of powerful knees put the striking on two levels, and baffled Duffee's attempts at defense.
Overeem looked like a predator.
What sucks is the math.
As Overeem continues to devastate opponents, his stock rises, and so does his price to move to the UFC. Overeem is making bags of cash right now without being in the UFC. While the UFC has excellent opponents for him, is the money there for Overeem?
I was thinking the very same thing. Overeem is getting paid. The UFC is notoriously stingy compared to other promotions. He just dismantled a guy that, for a minute anyway, was considered a rising star in the UFC's HW division.
The thing is that Alistair likes to stay busy. If he signs with the UFC, he will be stuck in a division that is, let's face it, not all that deep talent wise. He holds titles in two different MMA promotions and he's a K1 champ. He would deserve a title shot, or at the very least, a number 1 contender's fight right off the bat.
Quite frankly, I dont quite understand how Dana could of had such a serious man-boner for a guy like Jake Shields and no interest in Overeem. Not to take away from Shields, he' a great fighter, but he can be a total snooze fest stylistically. The fans like big heavy weights that can knock their opponents the f out. Even without the major name recognition, Overeem looks like the incredible Hulk. People will pay to see that. Hardcore MMA fans would definitely pay to see it.
Your a prick. One day you'll taste a knee, probably not though.
Who didnt see this cominf, not really shocking. Overeem against someone doing it only for the money was not gonna end well. Aoki was never really that good and that knockout proved it
That just proved that his striking is not top K-1. He got caught, it happens. Saying he's not that good is not true to his testament as a fighter. The dude is a grappling machine, i'm pretty sure he can hold his own against Jake Shields or any grappler you throw at him in MMA. Although he doesn't do all that well in BJJ competitions, but he sometimes fights guys that are much larger then him.
Everyone knows he can't strike. That's why people like him. You know exactly what he is going to do but he still wins a lot. It's weird. I think he is cool to watch.
sakuraba would eat aoki alive if he was younger
at this point, who doesnt like overeem
and that ladies and gentlemen is a K-1 champion
Awesome card, awesome fights. My only complaints are that I hate the way Japanese MMA turns events into extravaganzas and that the DREAM HW title is a paper belt. I think Overeem is one of the best HWs in the world and Todd Duffy is no slouch but that should not have been for the title. I was really surprised by a few things. I couldn't believe how small Sakuraba is. The guy had fought legit LHWs (Belfort, Rampage) and won so I thought he would have a big size advantage over Zaromskis comsidering that he is a small WW but Sakuraba actually looked significantly smaller. I had Sakuraba in the picks based on that. Oops. Still, who knows how it would have gone if his ear hadn't come off. The other surprise for me was how Kawajiri manhandles Josh Thomson. I did not see that coming. I can't wait to see him fight in the U.S.
Overeem best HW in the world,
come to the ufc and prove the haters wrong
What kinda bs rules are those in that one fight? I mean what is the point of having a Kickboxing / MMA rules bout?
Lol, yea I picked round 1 Submission for Aoki and it wasn't even a legal option...
Ha! I did the same thing.
Me to, but im pretty sure most of us did though XD
aoki fight was just sloppy as f***. he looked like an idiot until he slept like one.
Wasn't sloppy he was doing stuff, but shit that isn't even in the rule book.
for me the the man that walked away from this show looking the best was kawjiri defeating a very game josh thompson impressed me. many of the other less hypede fights proved to be the better fights also. sadly i think this may be the end for dream and it may be for the best. this card while entertaning in terms of matchups was a joke they simply put the biggest names they could on the card without any thought. sakuraba vs zaromskis ww title fight huh ? reem vs duffee hw title fight what? not one but two title fights featuring guys ranked somwhere in the 30-50 range who have recently had their ass handed to them. then the biggest embarrasment of all aoiki in mma/k-1/circus fight.
Haha yea and people were talking about Josh in their top 10 last week...
