K-1 and Dream President Sadaharu Tanigawa revealed that the busy Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem will fight at the April K-1 World Grand Prix event in Yokohama, Japan, on April 3rd. HeadKickLegend.com reports that "The Demolition Man" will face the experienced Dzevad Poturak, who holds an impressive 44-12 Kickboxing record. The event will also feature K-1 legends Peter Aerts, Semmy Schilt and Jerome Le Banner.

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem stated in numerous occasions that he wants to concentrate on competing in Mixed Martial Arts, naming Fedor Emelianenko as the only opponent he wants to fight. The fight fulfills Overeem's obligations to K-1, making him officially available for the fight against Brett Rogers, probably for the Heavyweight Title at Strikeforce's May 15 event.

Alistair Overeem defended his Strikeforce title more than two years ago, on November 16th 2007, fighting in no less than seven MMA events outside the promotion. Overeem is currently 32-11 in MMA and 5-4 in K-1, with notable victories over the legendary Badr Hari and Peter Aerts.

    What happens if hes injured?

And he cant pass the medicle or is suspended from fighting for 3 months?

This is why it sucks for a fighter to fight with multiple orgs.

Its not fair to the org who is counting on him, but then again, he doesn't always get top level comp in those orgs either.

But that chance is always there.

Im I the only one that belives that if you dont defend your belt within a year you should be stripped of it or some rule along those lines.

no sir, I agree also, thats why until they shape up in these other orgs, I still prefer the UFC regardless of Dana Wipe.

Overeem is such a pussy, what kind of champ doesn't defend their belt for like 2yrs, can't wait till rogers whoops him and then fedor whoops rogers again for the title

but I doubt that. Overeem is the biggest threat for Fedor's reign (outside the UFC).

I dont think anyone can beat fedor outside the UFC. Though inside the UFC you have few real talents that can give fedor real hard time if not beat him!

They need to strip him of that title. He obviously has no plans of fighting for it.

I'm getting a bit bored with Overeem. He's really not that good a fighter.

He used to have decent kickboxing stand up but since he put on about 40Lbs+ of new muscle he looks cumbersome & slow.

He seems to just charge forward like Balrog in Street Fighter looking for the big KO punch.!!!!

To be fair, when he connects good it's normally bad news for the other opponent but I watched the K1 GP Finals in December & he didn't look that impressive.

It was possibly the fastest K1 Event I ever seen with 7 fights ending by KO in the 1st round. Overeem was one of those casualties in the Semi-finals 2min in to the 1st round thanks to a superb high kick by Badr Hari.

Overeem doesn't have the talent to ever win a Pride GP with the top fighters in it so I don't see him doing much better in MMA unless he dramatically improves his ground game!

Semmy Schilt won that event "AGAIN". He fought 2 or 3 times in UFC back around 2000-2001, he left after his 2nd fight when he lost to Barnett.

I reckon there's a better chance of Semmy going to Strikeforce & beating Fedor than Overeem has of defending his title!!!

    Just my opinion :o)
