Gilbert Melendez will not fight Shinya Aoki at Dynamite!! 2010

One of the major stumbling blocks is that Melendez's contract with Strikeforce is coming to an end, and while he does have a championship clause, which allows the organization to continue booking fights for him as long as he champion, it proved difficult to get him to fight in an another promotion without a finalized long-term deal.

According to Kogan, FEG will look to keep Aoki on the card against another opponent.

MMAFighting.com reports that Gilbert Melendez will not fight Shinya Aoki at the traditional New Years Eve show, promoted by FEG. Melendez defeated Aoki at Strikeforce: Nashville on April 17th, in what seems like his only fight in 2010. Strikeforce were unable to find another opponent for "El Nino", as the negotiations to promote a fight against Eddie Alvarez collapsed due to a dispute between Bjorn Rebney and Scott Coker. As for Aoki, he could face the DEEP Lightweight Champ Katsunori Kikuno, who already expressed his desire to fight the "Baka Survivor".

Ya, Im glad this fight isn't happening...Melendez-Alvarez is so much better I would love to see that fight, Aoki can fight JZ again or maybe Thomson, I wouldn't mind those match ups

Good. He beat Aoki at all aspects of the game. Aoki never posed a threat to Melendez.

the only diffrence between the ring and cage would be people hiding behind the ropes or outright escaping through them ref stopping the fight and moving to the center and other unnessary interuptions

This is good because we would have seen a b******t decision in

Japan they always have them and Katsunori Kikuno might pose a

    hard challenge for Aoki.

The guys was trying to punch him in the face. So what if he broke his arm. I saw him break a Bjj black belts arm with a flying arm bar at a Rickson Gracie Budo challenge. BJ Penn wouldn't stand a chance unless he runs around the ring like Melendez did.

ROFL you really think Aoki can outgrapple BJ? The guy who got his black belt in 2 years and was the first american to win the world grappling competition?

Yeah he would out submit him as well. Aoki has won his fair share of competitions also and Penn has not even competed in over 10 years in any of that stuff. And getting a black belt in 2 years sounds suspect to me. Just like Frank MIr. Let me see Penn go to Abu Dhabi and acompish something. Aoki beats and submits people who have Abu Dahbi competitions. The best BJJ guy Penn has faced in the last 5 years was K-flow who is a joke in my opinion.

as a pure grappler aoki might be better emphasis on might but bj's standup is a hundred times better bj's takedown defense is way better than aoki's takedowns which is pretty bad. bjj match i would pick aoki mma match bj first round ko probaly in the first minute

by the way melendez wants to jump ship to the ufc i think he should the only fight that makes sense outside the ufc is alvarez which would be awesome but is not likely to happen. otherwise he could stay in strike force and fight josh tompson every 4 months or some no name bum

Gilbert and Eddie deserve to be

    on the big stage

    making big money

Aoki flopped in his first trip to SF

so bring him back with Thompson or another Top SF lightwieght

and see if he fares better

in Japan he gets away with anything he pulls

in the US he has to fight soomeone else's fight not just them fight his

It is MMA not grappling, not BJJ but MMA
