Alistair Overeem definitely not fighting at DREAM 15
Posted on July 5, 2010, 03:12 PM by Daniel CassidyDespite all sorts of reports on the contrary, Alistair Overeem himself has confirmed he will not be fihgting at DREAM 15 on July 10th. The current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, currently 33-11-0-1, Overeem told sent a personal message to mmafighting.com to clear up the situation.
"I have heard numerous rumors about me fighting at Dream on July 10. I want to give my side of the story before speculation arises:
"After my Brett Rogers fight on May 15, I decided to take time off and do media appearances -- MMA expo in Canada, E3 expo, Strikeforce events -- and enjoy some time off with my family. I knew Dream wanted me on the show, but I didn't want to go back in training preparation. Then, they offered me a fight against Andrei Arlovski for the Dream heavyweight title. As I have said on occasions, fighting for a belt means something more, and I wanted that Dream title so much that So as a result, I agreed to lay off my media and holiday plans, and went back to training.
During my training I found out that Andrei Arlovski was not going to be my opponent, and they changed opponents numerous times. I've heard names like Tim Sylvia and Minowa. At one point, I received notice that they had found a opponent but that the Dream heavyweight title was not on the line anymore. With all the changes and the title fight no longer a possibility, I simply had to turn down the opportunity.
The next day, I immediately took a flight to San Jose to hype up my possible fight against the winner of Fedor Emelianenko or Fabricio Werdum. I then heard rumors that Dream had booked me in a fight against Ricco Rodriguez. I want to make it very clear that I never verbally agreed to fight him and I never signed a contract with Dream to fight him. I feel very sorry for Ricco Rodriguez's camp if they still think the fight is on, and I apologize to my fans that have bought a ticket to see me compete. I hope this statement has shed some light on the unfortunate situation."
Dream 15 takes place in Japan this Saturday night and is headlined by Shinya Aoki vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri for the DREAM lightweight title.

Wow. Come on Overeem. I thought you were about your money! Go fight!
he probably just wants to fight fedor
overeem is overrated, in pride he got his ass kicked, and now he fights b level competition, who cares about this clown, and he was rumored to be juicing, NEXT!
Overeem needs to fight Fedor, Werdum, or Barnett and if he beats a couple of these guys then go to the UFC
one thing i always remerber jose canseco "the steroid king" say. steroids will make a good athlete into a great athlete. allistair was already a great athlete. he's been fighting top copetition since he was 17. i saw him get ko'd by shogun in vegas. but now with the steriods, he is ridiculously good. he can still be beat, but i bet he hits way harder and is much stronger than he was in pride. and when you watch those old fights, he usually dominated the first five minutes. then gassed out and got knocked out. i think he has learned more from his losses than any mma fighter in the world.
Oozereem... Look what happened to Shredder when he fell in the Ooze.

@ onemoreround
I take it PRIDE, K-1, DREAM, & STRIKEFORCE are B level organizations on your book. You are definitely a UFC nuthugger.... You sound extremely ignorant making these kind of statements.
So he lost in Pride so he sucks... LOL!
I take it Brock never juiced... He is the best. He fights for the UFC. Nobody juices in the UFC.... LOL!
The difference being Rane, that people go to Japan specifically to juice. Champions have been dethroned in the UFC. Empty accusations mean nothing. Lesnar was a monster when he was born.
how can you be so freakin stupid?
Is that what they call an argument on your short-bus? Don't hurt yourself trying to think.
not everyone who was fighting in pride was in their prime. atm overeem probably has some of the best striking skills in the heavyweight division.
You may be right about the juicing, but he is a threat to any heavyweight> He has great stand up, and has improved a lot on the ground. I would love for him to come to the UFC.
All the great match ups we could see....
Overeem vs. Carwin
Overeem vs. Mir
Overeem vs. Velasquez
Overeem vs. Lesnar
I would love to see those...and he has a chance to win them all!
See if this works.
Overeem
Shit!
UFC! Enough said...
Wow i missed a chance to see him dominate some random, I missed out bigtime
Is there proof that there isn't a flying spaghetti monster in the sky? He went from looking like Brandon Vera, to looking like Bob Sapp, in no time. Look at his face, his skull. Stalone is the same way. Look at early photos and recent photos, HGH makes your bones grow, that's why their skulls magically continue to fill out.
All due respect DC, but my first gut-reaction to this article was "who cares?". I know it's legit MMA news. But, it's becoming very clear that Strikeforce is a dysfunctional joke (which is standard ALWAYS when you co-promote). The belt is meaningless. Overeem is defending it what, once every 5 years? While he hides in unregulated Japan.
I have less and less respect for these guys every day. And, I used to be the guy who got all his friends in to MMA by showing them videos of Fedor. Was a big fan... I would respect him more for facing the UFC top HW's and losing, than I do for fighting and winning in Strikeforce. Losing in the UFC, would be more respectable. And now he's losing to UFC roadkill. And he got almost 3x as many votes on that hilarious top-HW's poll as Overeem did. The reality is that these guys are mostly myth and legend. Everyone looks better in Japan, there's a reason that nearly all of these guys come to the UFC and look suddenly and dramatically old and tired and feeble. Lesnar is less than a year younger than Fedor, and he has put 1,000x the ware and tare and damage in to his body than Fedor has. Shane is a couple years older than Fedor. But, Fedor is magically and coincidentally old now somehow... It's just Lame Excuse #1,524,239 that they throw around.
Overeem doesn't have the wrestling to keep the fight standing, versus any of the top 5-6 UFC HW's. And, it looks to me like Lesnar would be able to close his eyes and stick his chin out and give Overeem a free one, without being very wobbled. Shane delivered 70+ power-strikes, Lesnar's whole face was mangled from them making clean impact. But, he said he only got dazed for about 2 seconds.
If you watch the fight again, keep an eye on Lesnar's feet. He got tagged by that first uppercut, was surprised by the power, but he wasn't hurt, legs were all there. He went down because of lack of experience, not knowing how to cope with that kind of a flurry of punches. Turtle is just the natural response I think. Those elbows would have put anybody else out cold. Lesnar looked like he winced at the pain, but if you watch his limbs, there is never a twitch or any kind of a wobble. I think he had just never experienced it before, and showed Shane too much respect because he spent the last 6 months listening about Shane's legendary power. Lesnar could have let his hands go and traded with Shane, he'll get hit 5x for each one he lands, but he can put Shane down, Shane's best shot only made Lesnar flinch.
Notice the 2nd round, Shane lands another big shot that twisted Brock's head to the side 90 degrees. He didn't panic scramble that time, because he wasn't surprised by the power, and knew he could eat those all day. It would have knocked just about anybody else out, and Lesnar looked like he didn't notice it. That first upper-cut that landed, was right in Shane's sweet spot range wise, his arms were totally 100% fresh, Lesnar was even ducking in to it, it couldn't have been planned more perfectly to knock Lesnar out. But it wasn't anything even close enough to dropping him, or even making his knees wobble.
Cain NEEDS some other way to beat Lesnar. You think he can run his ass off and point out a decision? Lesnar is so big and fast, he'll get his hands on Cain eventually. And he doesn't even need to try and block the incoming punches when he's going for his take-downs. He can walk through them. Cain will have to grab a leg.
I would have thought he went down on purpose. Noone can punch as hard on the ground as they can on their feet, plus it's easier to waste energy on the ground as they have to hold you down
UFC bot
Your statement "Everyone looks better in Japan, there's a reason that nearly all of these guys come to the UFC and look suddenly and dramatically old and tired and feeble." is wrong.
As you know Shogun, Anderson Silva, Rampage, Nog brothers came from Pride. Chuck Liddell got his ass kicked in Pride in his prime years coming from the UFC!
Chuck stomped Overeem, and lost to Rampage. And yeah, any honest person will acknowledge what you can't. The vast vast majority of Pride fighters had no chance to move over. Most didn't try. Most of those who have tried have failed badly. Pointing to the few exceptions doesn't change reality.
Fedor isn't old, he's just in over his head. Old is simply an easy nonsense excuse for people to throw around without ever actually having to make an intelligent point.
Lesnar is less than a year younger, and has a much more taxing career. Shane is older, and he's fighting the best, not making excuses about his age.
Prior to coming to the UFC, Pride fighters had over 20 fights in MMA only, not to mention Grand Prix, when they fought 2 times in one day with top fighters in their prime. It is like fighting Cain in the morning and Dos Santos in the evening. Of course, they would feel old and tired regardless of age.
Chuck was in his prime when he beat Overeem, Overeem was young and he gave a good fight.
For your information, Fedor never gave an excuse about his age, only that the optimal number of fights is 3 times a year for his age.
I want to see Lesner or Carwin fighting 33 MMA fights coming to 33-36 years of age. I want to see Lesner or Carwin to fight in any Grand Prix. They would probably die. No disrespect to both fighters, but that's the reality.
You have no respect because you're completely clueless. Lesnar put more damage on his body in a week of Wretard-Wrestling than Fedor has over his entire sheltered career. They're practically the same age, it's just a nonsense excuse. Carwin is older, has had a more grueling career, and he would tare Fedor's head off.
I know Fedor doesn't give excuses. I know he's not a moron, it's his fans who make the weak excuses. He's younger than Shane, and practically the same age as Lesnar, but Fedor is somehow older because time runs faster in Japan or something.
I did not call you clueless. I am not trying to disrespect Lesner or Carwin. If you read my post, I was talking about MMA fights in their career, not WWE or college wrestling. I am well aware about Lesner's achievements in wrestling. I was not talking about Fedor's or Lesner's pre MMA career. Apart from MMA, Fedor has been competing in sambo, judo and combat sambo for many years before MMA. I was not counting that. I don't think, I am making weak excuses. Regarding Shane killing Fedor, after he gased out so badly, I doubt he is good enough for Fedor. I really like Shane, I was sorry to see him lose and he is a good decent person.
Oh... I missed you in all the Fedor training videos. You seem to know so much about his wear and tear, I thought you must have been there.
When you have no arguments, it is only left being a funny smart ass. One is trying to call me clueless, second one says I know too much. Make up you mind.
Yeah Tch, what do you do when you can't string two words together to form a thought? You say *duh* UFC bot! *duh*, then drool on yourself probably.
You can't disagree with anything I said, so shut it.
Yeah, he wasn't knocked down. He just tried to spin out and avoid and got cut off at the cage. No evidence that any of it hurt him significantly. Lesnar said one of the shots dazed him for 2 seconds.
Damn that felt like it took 2 seconds to write, hah.
the funny thing is u bitch about overeem on a website yet ud never say it to his face cos ur too scared and if everyone here thinks vitor belfort can beat anderson silva then i must let u know that alistair overeem beat vitor on 2 occasions ...also he has defeated many great fighters ..overeem did not user steroids infact worked his ass off with the best strongmen of holland so to all use haters U SIR CAN SUCK MY BALLS !!!!!!!!!
Who are these "many great fighters".
Nice fake account, again.
They're imaginary. His record is crap. And, there's a reason he has refused to fight anywhere but Japan. The same reason he magically transformed from Richard Simmons to Bob Sapp.
@Madnessstill: Actually, a punch on the ground, if delivered from top position to bottom, has more power on it than standing due to gravity, and will deliver even more damage if the git bounces the head back on the floor. OFC its very difficult to do a clean shot when your G&P, hence we seldom see clean powerful shot, but I assure you if you hit the bottom from a upward position, the power delivered is incredible!
As for the thread itself: Im happy Overeem isnt fighting on Dream, he needs to face Werdum or Strikeforce will loose its reputation (which isnt the best I may add) and credibility...
